A Critical Evaluation of Mercury Contamination in Groundwater of Punjab
Abstract: Groundwater in Punjab State has been over-exploited for irrigation purposes during the last few decades. As a consequence, it has been contaminated with heavy metals including Mercury, which is highly toxic for human health. The permissible limit for Mercury in groundwater is 0.001 mg/L (1ppb). Mercury concentration in groundwater has been estimated using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) which is calibrated using a standard protocol. Ferozepur district in Punjab …

Impact of Mercuric Iodide on the Growth of Phormidium spp.
Abstract: Cyanobacteria are microalgae which are freely distributed in aquatic environment. They are photosynthetic organisms and can fix atmospheric nitrogen under anerobic condition. Such cyanobacteria have been applied as a nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture to improve the crop yield. Since the application of chemical fertilizers in crop fields created heavy metal pollution which could be neutralized by microalgae under aquatic environment. They have ability to tolerate the heavy metal concentrations under …

Biochemical Analysis of Cadaveric Synovial Fluid for Determination of Death Interval
Abstract: Estimation of post-mortem interval or time since a death has always remained an important requirement in medico-legal autopsies. Since the 1850s, scientists have been working on different methods to determine post-mortem interval but none of the methods is either or collectively reliable in measuring exact death interval because of environmental factors. Hence in this study, synovial fluid sodium concentration was investigated to predict post-mortem interval. Total 100 samples of the …

The Role of Precision Agriculture in Enhancing Horticultural Crop Yields
Abstract: This article explores the quantification of lithium and mapping of mineral composition in crushed lithium ore utilizing two distinct calibration techniques with Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). Thirty samples from a pegmatite lithium deposit were analyzed, with representative mineral samples extracted, mixed with resin, and polished into disks. These disks underwent examination via an analyzer and an integrated mineral analyzer, facilitating mineral identification. The first calibration technique used empirical mineral chemistry …

Radio-Assay of Plant Samples at the Proposed Nuclear Reactor Site in Geregu, North-Central Nigeria
Abstract: Radio-assay of plant samples at the Geregu site, North-Central Nigeria, was evaluated to determine the radiological burden on the environment. Plant samples were collected from ten different locations on the site and the concentrations were measured using gamma spectroscopy. Radiological equivalent dose was estimated using standard analytical methods. The mean value for the external outdoor absorbed gamma dose rates due to terrestrial γ-rays from the nuclides Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40 …
