Pathogens in Nosocomial Infections: Epidemiology, Resistance, and Control Measures
Abstract: Nosocomial infections, also known as healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), are a serious global health issue, leading to higher patient morbidity, prolonged hospital stays, and increased medical costs. Various pathogens—such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites—are responsible for these infections, especially in healthcare environments where they easily spread. They can be transmitted through direct contact with infected patients, contaminated medical equipment, or even airborne particles.Patients with weakened immune systems, those requiring prolonged …

The Burden of Empirical Therapy: Analyzing the Predominance of Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic Usage in Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
Abstract: Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) remain one of the leading causes of morbidity and hospitalization worldwide, particularly among older adults, immunocompromised individuals, and patients with chronic respiratory disorders. These infections include conditions such as community-acquired pneumonia, hospital-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis, and acute infective exacerbations of chronic lung disease, all of which often require rapid clinical intervention. Because microbiological confirmation of the causative pathogen frequently takes 48–72 hours, clinicians generally initiate empirical …

Role of Therapeutic Index for Local Infections Score in Wound Assessment
Abstract: Local wound infections pose a significant challenge, often detected later, leading to complications like systemic infections. Global nomenclature lacks uniformity, resulting in varied treatments for similar diagnoses. Early intervention is crucial, advocating for local antimicrobial therapy with diverse active agents to avoid systemic antibiotics and mitigate bacterial resistance. The Therapeutic Index for Local Infections (TILI) score, innovated by the German society Initiative Chronis Che Wenden (ICW), emerges as a pivotal …

Role of W.A.R. Score in Predicting Wound Infection
Abstract: In clinical practice, chronic wounds are a major difficulty that are frequently made worse by the infection risk. However, the lack of precise standards for evaluating the risk of infection and establishing the need for and length of time for systemic antibiotics leads to the overuse and abuse of these drugs, which increases the risk of side effects and the development of antibiotic resistance. To close this gap, the development …

Virulence Factors in pathogens :mechanisms of infection & disease progression
Abstract: Pathogens, like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, have evolved specialized tools – known as virulence factors – that help them infect hosts, escape the immune system, and cause disease. These factors play a key role in determining how severe an infection becomes, how quickly it spreads, and how the body responds. Some pathogens use adhesins to stick to host cells, while others produce toxins that damage tissues or disrupt normal …

Ocular Films as a Drug Delivery System Against Fungal Infections: Current Insights and Future Directions
Abstract: Fungal infections of the eye, including keratitis, endophthalmitis, and blepharitis, represent a challenging class of ocular diseases due to their potential for vision loss and the limited efficacy of existing treatments. These infections are caused by a range of pathogenic fungi, such as Aspergillus, Candida, and Fusarium species, and often require long-term therapeutic intervention. Conventional topical antifungal therapies, such as eye drops and ointments, suffer from poor ocular bioavailability due …

Infectious illnesses in areas of violence and among refugees
Abstract: Infectious illnesses are a huge and ongoing hazard in conflict zones and among refugee populations. This is because frail health systems, population relocation, and poor living conditions all come together to make transmission risks higher. Armed conflict undermines vital public health infrastructure, such as vaccination programs, disease surveillance, water and sanitation systems, and access to medical care, resulting in the resurgence and proliferation of avoidable and treatable illnesses. Refugee camps …

Topical Luliconazole for the Management of Fungal Infections: A Review
Abstract: Luliconazole, an antifungal agent of the imidazole class, possesses a distinctive structure where the imidazole component is fused with the ketene dithioacetate configuration. It exists in its R-enantiomer form, which exhibits greater antifungal efficacy compared to lanoconazole, a compound comprising a racemic blend. Strong action is shown by luliconazole against filamentous fungi, such as dermatophytes. The pharmacokinetic characteristics of dermatophytes, such as Trichophyton rubrum and Microsporum gypseum, help explain why …
