Preservation of Cysteine Protease Activity in Oleoresin Extracts of Traditional Spices Aided by Modelling and HPLC Studies
Abstract: In the present study, Zingiber officinale, Allium sativum and Phyllanthus emblica were pretreated with sodium ascorbate and dried using electric tray drier at 65°C. Six different models were applied to the drying experimental data and the best fit model for each sample was determined. The dried samples were then used for the extraction of oleoresin, followed by HPLC analysis. The study elucidates the advantage of sodium ascorbate pretreatment, drying treatment …

A Novel Protease Identified in the Latex of Ficus longifolia
Abstract: AbstractA proteolytic enzyme has been extracted from the latex of the plant Ficus longifolia. The optimum pH and temperature for the activity of the enzyme have been determined as 9 and 70°C respectively. It was activated by cysteine and β-mercaptoethanol. Its activity was inhibited strongly and reversibly by PCMB (Para Chloro Mercury Benzoate), which revealed that the latex protease is a cysteine protease. It is a novel plant latex protease. Keywords: …

Anti-Cancer Effect of Cordyceps Militaris
Abstract: Cordyceps militaris is a therapeutic fungus that has been used for traditional herbal remedies. It contains variety of bioactive elements, including cordycepin. Cordycepin (3’-deoxyadenosine), is the main compound and is believed to have anti-cancer potential. Treatment of various cancer cells with cordycepin effectively causes cell death and slows down the nature of the cancer. But yet, the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Recent findings provide information about molecular signalling …

Targeting Papain-Like Protease of Re-Emerging Coronaviruses
Abstract: Re-emerging Corona viruses (CoVs), including SARS-CoV (S-CoVs), and SARS-CoV-2 (S-CoV-2), continue to pose a global health threat due to their high mutation rates, zoonotic spillover potential, and capacity for immune evasion. The global pandemic of year 2019, caused by S-CoV-2, has highlighted the importance for robust antiviral strategies beyond vaccines and RNA polymerase or main protease inhibitors, which are susceptible to resistance. One promising therapeutic target is the S-CoV-2 papain-like …

Vaccine Candidates and Animal Models for Kala-Azar
Abstract: Kala-azar or Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is a serious human disease in tropical regions and rapidly emerging as an opportunistic infection in HIV patients. The available treatment against VL is associated with toxicity and drug resistance. Even though the development of vaccines against VL is received limited attention. The only successful immunization strategy in humans has been leishmanization, which is based on the development of durable immunity after recovery from infection …

Protective Role of Sulforaphane against Multiorgan Toxicity in Rats: An In-vivo and In-vitro Review Study
Abstract: Sulforaphane [1-isothiocyanate-(4R) -(methylsulfinyl) butane] is a natural dietary isothiocyanate produced by the enzymatic accomplishment of the myrosinase on glucopharanin, a 4-methylsulfinylbutyl glucosinolate contained in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, and cabbage. Exploring of this compound against various oxidative degenerative diseases such as hepatic, nephro and cardiac diseases is growing because of its anticarcinogenic and cytoprotective properties. In several invivo and invitro experimental paradigms proved SFN and its compounds …

Comparative Analysis of Protein and Prediction of Amino Acids in Different Extracts of Local Spinach Leaves
Abstract: In this study, spinach leaves from the local source have been selected for its comparative analysis of protein concentrations using UV-Visible spectrophotometer in three different solvents viz. double distilled water (ddH2O), ethanol (C2H5OH), and methanol (CH3OH). Different amino acids in different solvents have also been predicted based on the peaks obtained at different wavelengths in UV-region and compared. For the solvent-extraction of spinach, the final spinach: solvent ratio was 1:20 …

Whey Proteins—A Potential Nutraceutical
Abstract: Whey protein is considered as a potential nutraceutical as it provides numerous health benefits. Different biological component of whey protein includes β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin and lactoferrin, etc. with proven health benefits. The underlying mechanism by which whey shows its effect is probably by intracellular translation of the Cysteine to Glutathione (GSH) amino acid (AA) which is an effective intracellular antioxidant. Different medical experiments have also demonstrated that whey protein possess excellent …
