Air Pollution and Lung Cancer: A Deep Dive into the Impact in Southern India
Abstract: Lung cancer incidence is rising in Southern India, with air pollution, particularly PM2.5, emerging as a significant risk factor alongside smoking. A retrospective cohort study analyzed data from 1,500 lung cancer patients diagnosed between 2010–2020 across Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, using hospital records, cancer registries, and environmental monitoring stations. Mercury-induced Biochemical Changes in Perna viridis Exposed in Chronic Toxicity Test
Abstract: In the present study, the Asian green mussel, Perna viridis, was exposed to 50, 75, 113, 160 and 253 µg/L Hg concentrations under chronic toxicity for the assessment of biochemical biomarkers. Higher levels of glutathione S-transferase (GST), reduced glutathione (GSH), lipid peroxidation (LPO) and lower levels of protein, catalase (CAT) and acetylcholinesterase (AchE) were found.
