Improved Global Region based Chan-Vese Model
Abstract: Chan-Vese model is one of the fundamental active contour models for image segmentation. In this paper, the authors propose an improved global region based Chan-Vese model which provides solution to some limitations of basic Chan-Vese model. The proposed model avoids re-initialization requirement to increase speed of algorithm by reaction-diffusion method. The stopping criterion to stop segmentation process is also added in the model. To make model automatic, initialization free feature …

Polymer Modifications (Grafting): Approach to Enhance Versatility of Natural/Renewable Polymeric Materials
Abstract: Graft copolymers are branched copolymers containing a long chain of one monomer called preformed or backbone polymer and branches/grafts of long sequences of usually another monomer. A number of monomeric units can be grafted on the biopolymeric backbone by free radical graft copolymerization reaction using chemical free radical initiator to produce reactive sites on the backbone of biopolymer. The chemical combination of natural and synthetic polymers yields new materials which …

Global Polio Eradication: Opportunities and Challenges
Abstract: Poliomyelitis (polio) is a disease of public health importance that occurs mainly in children. In a small percent of infected children, the virus invades central nervous system that could result in paralysis. Now, the global eradication of polio is considered to be in the final stage. By 2002, three World Health Organization (WHO) regions (the Americas, Western Pacific and European regions) had been certified as polio-free. Since the start of …

Numerical Investigation of Ply-by-Ply Failure and Strength Degradation in Composite Laminates Under Transverse Loading
Abstract: This paper represents the failure analysis of composite symmetric and antisymmetric laminate, when laminates were subjected to the transverse loading conditions. The load is uniformly distributed in a transverse direction. The analysis includes failure load and nature of failure by using theories of failure. The ply degradation material model is used to modify and update the properties of failed lamina and upgrades the properties of laminate. Laminate is modelled as …

Dissipative Particle Dynamics Simulation Study on the Evolution of Photoinitiated Free Radical Polymerization Crosslinked Networks
Abstract: Gradient polymer materials overcome the limitations of conventional homogeneous polymers by integrating multiple distinct functionalities within a single continuous structure. Although photoinitiated free-radical polymerization offers excellent spatial and temporal control, the underlying microscopic mechanisms governing network evolution under non-uniform light fields remain poorly understood. In this study, a mesoscale dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) model was successfully developed to couple free-radical polymerization kinetics—including initiation, propagation, crosslinking, and termination—with exponential light attenuation …

Concept of Free Radical Theory in Ayurveda
Abstract: A free radical can be defined as any molecular species capable of independent existence that contains an unpaired electron in an atomic orbital. Free radical is produced as an intermediate product during metabolism of fat, carbohydrates and protein in body. Free radicals are known to attack the structure of cell membranes which then create metabolic waste products. Free radicals are capable of damaging biological entities (due to their unstable and …

Marine Supplements and Depression: A Critique
Abstract: Depression is the common cold of psychiatric illness. It affects millions of people to varying degrees. It has a predisposition to attack its ‘victims’ without any apparent reason, albeit current research supports the credo that complex psychological, environmental, and biochemical changes could trigger and also ‘engender,’ the initial mood swing. Conventional medications do not provide long-lasting results; they are also not free of side-effects in the long run. Marine dietary …

Perturbant Effect of Iron in Free and Complexed Form on the Briggs-Rauscher Oscillating Reaction
Abstract: The present work is aimed to investigate the perturbations of the oscillatory regime of Briggs-Rauscher (BR) reaction by Fe(bipy)32+ and Fe(C2O4)33‑ complexes in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The path of the perturbation (immediate quenching of oscillation -inhibition time- resumption of oscillations) provoked by the ferrous complex (Fe(bipy)32+) was found different to that of the ferric complex (Fe(C2O4)33‑). The initial concentration of Fe(bipy)32+ complex showed a linear dependence on …

Abstract: Reinforced concrete, as composite material has occupied special place in the modern construction of different type of structure. Reinforced concrete is inherently durable and near maintenance free construction material. Service life of reinforced concrete structure can be significantly reduced when the corrosion of reinforcing steel is initiated; the product of corrosion expands and occupies greater volume than original volume of steel, eventually causes cracking of concrete.
