Compatative Catalytic Study of Oxidation of Thiourea by Chromium (VI) in Presence of Different Catalysts and Micelles
Abstract: The series of catalysts like acetate, oxalate, EDTA, the varies micelles viz, CTAB, SDS, TRITON X-100 was carried out in the kinetic study of oxidation of Thiourea by Cr(VI) as an oxidant in water medium. The effect of catalytic efficiency has been study for varies catalyst and micelles by volumetric method and UV spectroscopic methods. The product was confirmed by IR studies. UV study reveals shows that higher catalytic efficiency …

Investigation of Pollution Status in River No. 2, Freetown, Sierra Leone, Using Physicochemical and Bacterial Indicators
Abstract: This study assessed the physicochemical and bacteriological quality of surface water in the River No. 2 watershed, Sierra Leone, through monthly sampling from March–August 2024 at upstream, midstream, and downstream sites. Analyses included temperature, turbidity, pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, ammonia, fluoride, sulfite, nitrate, lead, arsenic, chromium, and microbial indicators (Escherichia coli, fecal and non-fecal coliforms). Most physicochemical parameters met WHO drinking-water guidelines. pH (7.0–7.3), TDS (7–17 mg/L), turbidity …

Assessment of Physico-Chemical and Microbial Analyses of Hand Dug Wells in Makeni Town, Sierra Leone
Abstract: The various water samples were analysed for residual chlorine, ammonia, fluoride, nitrate, sulphite, lead, arsenic, chromium, and bicarbonate levels from January to August 2024. The bacteria contamination was investigated to determine the safety of the water for the consumption of human. The temperatures across the four wells ranged 27.3oC to 30.0oC, with and average values ranging from 27.94oC to 29.15oC. pH values were within the WHO recommended guidelines range of …

Physicochemical Parameters for Water-Environment Quality Testing: A Review
Abstract: The increasing threat posed by contaminants in air, water, and soil is a pressing issue globally, exacerbated by population growth, industrialization, and agricultural practices. These factors contribute to significant water pollution, introducing harmful substances that compromise human health. Natural processes, such as weathering and soil leaching, alongside mining activities, further degrade water quality. Regular monitoring of drinking water is essential, as contaminated sources can lead to a variety of waterborne …

Environmental Impact of Ghaf Tree (Prosopis cineraria) on Heavy Metals Concentration in Atmosphere
Abstract: The Ghaf is a hardy tree, drought-resistant, and can grow up to ten meters in height, it tree produces small, yellow flowers which attractive to many habitats, like bees, insects, and birds. The leaves and pods of the Ghaf tree have significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and can be used in new drug development. Ghaf trees can adapt to changing environmental conditions and planting Ghaf trees could be an effective …

Exploring the Synergistic Effects of Heavy Metal contaminants on Aquatic Organisms
Abstract: Human activities have a profound effect on aquatic habitats by altering water and sediment quality, which in turn impacts resident organisms. These changes are primarily caused by pollutants from agricultural, industrial, and health-related sources. Industrial effluents, often containing hazardous heavy metals such as chromium, manganese, and lead, are a major source of environmental toxicity. The discharge of these pollutants makes water unsafe for drinking, irrigation, and industrial uses, necessitating effective …
