Maker Libraries: Public Libraries as Centers for Experiential Learning
Abstract: The traditional definition of a library is a place to collect and provide access to resources. In response to the 2008–2009 economic crisis, numerous state and city governments had to make hard budget choices. Some of those choices involved cutting the funding for human services departments, which include after school programs. Of those programs affected by budgetary cuts most fall into the category of experiential learning, a necessary inclusion in …

A IoT-Enabled Predictive Intelligence for Real-Time Failure and Damage Evolution Monitoring of Polymer Composites
Abstract: Damage assessment of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer composites is still challenging since the damage occurs as a combination of matrix cracking, interfacial debonding, delamination and fibre fracture. The present work proposes a framework for predictive-intelligence based on IoT for multiaxial fatigue and compression-after-impact (CAI) CFRP experiments, employing publicly available acoustic-emission (AE) datasets. A causal CNN–GRU attention model is developed by integrating time-domain, spectral, wavelet, loading-history and trend features to estimate the damage …

Generative AI-Driven Design Optimization of Lightweight Polymer Composites for Electric Vehicles
Abstract: Lightweight polymer composites are increasingly important for electric vehicles, where mass reduction must be achieved without compromising structural performance, thermal stability, manufacturability, or material reliability. This study develops a generative AI-driven inverse-design framework for identifying experimentally credible lightweight polymer-composite configurations under coupled EV-oriented constraints. Public experimental polymer-composite datasets were integrated through leakage-controlled preprocessing and group-aware validation. A multi-task neural surrogate predicted mechanical response, while a conditional variational autoencoder explored feasible …

Perceptions of Health Care Providers and the Community on the Management of Possible Serious Bacterial Infection (PSBI) in Young Infants where Referral is not Possible: A Qualitative Study
Abstract: Introduction: Every year, about 2.8 million children die in the first month of life, with 98% of these deaths occurring in developing countries. The current World Health Organization recommendation for management of infections in neonates and young infants (0–59 days old) is referral for hospital treatment with a 7 to 10 day course of a combination of two injectable antibiotics – Penicillin or Ampicillin plus Gentamicin. However, existing evidence demonstrates …
