Soil Around the Pier Below the Bed Level of River
Abstract: This study presents the evaluation of vertical and lateral loads acting on a bridge pier–pedestal system subjected to self-weight and vehicular loading. The pier, having a height of 25 m, length of 20 m, and thickness of 1 m, was found to carry a self-weight of 1200 t. When combined with a vehicular load of 2000 t, the total vertical load on the pier becomes 3200 t. Considering lateral force …

Synergistic Effects of Hybridized Nano-Silica and Hemp Fiber Reinforcement on Bio-Epoxy Composites
Abstract: Natural fiber-reinforced bio-epoxy composites have become promising sustainable alternatives to conventional synthetic-fiber petroleum-based materials, but are often limited by low fiber-matrix interfacial bonding, low thermal stability, and high moisture absorption which limit their application in structural applications. These issues are discussed in this work, by carrying out a systematic investigation of the synergistic effects of the hybridization of nano-silica particles with alkali-treated hemp fibers in a bio-epoxy matrix the composites …

Mechanical & Tribological Characterization of Al2024-Alumina-Graphite Reinforced Monolithic and Hybrid Composites
Abstract: This work investigates the mechanical characteristics of Al2024-Al2O3-Graphite reinforced monolithic and hybrid composites fabricated by the stir casting method. Exploratory work involved the fabrication of monolithic composites with varying Al2O3 contents (5-8 wt%) and hybrid composites with the ratios of Al2O3 (2-6 wt%) and Graphite (1-3 wt%) in matrix Al2024. For improving their dispersion, preheated reinforcement particles were introduced in matrix alloy at controlled stirring rates. A homogeneous particle distribution …

Structure–Property–Performance Characteristics of Chlorella Vulgaris Lipid-Based Bio-Composites Modified with n-Pentanol
Abstract: The depletion of fossil fuel resources and increasingly stringent emission regulations have intensified the need for sustainable alternatives for compression ignition (CI) engines. Biodiesel derived from Chlorella vulgaris microalgae is a renewable, non-edible fuel; however, its higher viscosity and lower volatility can adversely affect engine performance. To address these limitations, higher alcohols such as n-pentanol can be employed as effective modifiers to improve fuel physicochemical properties while maintaining compatibility with …

Polymeric Hybrid Systems Engineered with Multiple-Stage Energy Absorption for Temperature Control
Abstract: Polymer–composite based phase change systems offer an effective strategy for adaptive thermal management; however, most existing systems exhibit single-stage latent heat transitions, limiting their applicability in environments with fluctuating thermal loads. In this study, a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) polymer matrix was reinforced with two microencapsulated paraffin-based phase change materials (PCM-A and PCM-B) to achieve multi-level latent heat storage behavior. The fabricated TPU/PCM-A10–B20 polymer–composite demonstrated two distinct endothermic transitions at approximately …
