A Factorial Study on the Evaluation of the Effects of Starch, PVP and PEG 6000 on the Dissolution Rate of Pioglitazone Solid Dispersions
Abstract: Pioglitazone, a relatively new oral anti-diabetic drug belongs to BCS class II with low solubility and high permeability, and as such exhibits low and variable oral bioavailability. It needs enhancement in solubility and dissolution rate for improving its oral bioavailability and consequent reduction in dose. The specific objectives of the study are 1. To evaluate starch as a carrier for enhancing the dissolution rate of pioglitazone, a BCS class II …

Simple, Direct and Stability-Indicating UV Spectrophotometric Assay of Pioglitazone Hydrochloride in Pharmaceuticals
Abstract: Pioglitazone hydrochloride (PGH) is an antihyperglycemic agent used in the treatment of type-2 diabetes mellitus. A simple and straight forward UV-spectrophotometric method is presented for the determination of PGH in bulk drug and tablets by measuring the absorbance of drug solution in 0.1M H2SO4 at 269 nm. A plot of absorbance versus concentration obeyed Beer’s law over 2–36 µg ml-1 concentration range (r = 0.9981) with a molar absorptivity of …

Formulation and Development of pH Sensitive Drug Delivery Systems for Antihyperglycemic Drugs
Abstract: The aim of the present study was to develop a pH sensitive gastroretentive drug delivery system for an anti-diabetic drug pioglitazone HCl based on gas formation technique using 32 factorial design, in order to prolong the gastric residence time and increase the overall bioavailability of the dosage form, since the absorption is erratic in diabetic patients. The system consists of the drug loaded pellets which is coated with two different …

In Silico Screening and Evaluation of Some Metabolites from Momordica charantia in the Treatment of Peptic Ulcers
Abstract: Peptic ulcers are also called as or duodenal ulcers or gastric ulcers that are open sores generally develop in the lining of the stomach due to food and climatic factors. H. pylori infections are potentially the most dangerous and are linked to several diseases like diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, etc. In the present study, in silico screening and evaluation of some metabolites from Momordica charantia like Momorcharin, Momordicin, Metformin, Pioglitazone, …

‘Betazen’ Herbal Formulation, Ameliorates Experimentally Induced Metabolic Disturbances in Insulin Resistant Rats
Abstract: The present study was designed to evaluate anti-diabetic activity of ayurvedic formulation ‘Betazen’ in experimentally induced insulin resistant rats. Wistar rats were being rendered insulin resistant by administration of dexamethasone (2 μg/day s.c), along with high fat-high sugar (HFHS) diet (i.e. vanaspati ghee and fructose enriched) for 42 days. Animals with fasting blood glucose levels (BGL) of more than 150 mg/dl were selected, divided into different groups and administered 2.7 …
