Damage Evolution and Delamination Resistance in Polymer Matrix Functionally Graded Laminates
Abstract: Functionally graded laminates (FGLs) in polymer-matrix systems represent a promising pathway to enhance damage tolerance and delay delamination in advanced structural composites. In this study, we explore the mechanisms of damage initiation, propagation, and delamination resistance in polymer matrix functionally graded laminates (PM-FGLs) through a combined experimental–computational approach. Laminates with linear, exponential, and bio-inspired gradation profiles were fabricated using vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) and additive manufacturing techniques. Comprehensive mechanical …

Numerical Simulation of Crack Growth in Dynamic Loading Conditions
Abstract: Because it is crucial for forecasting structural failures in engineering applications, crack formation in materials under dynamic loading circumstances has become a crucial study topic. In this work, finite element methods (FEM) are used to numerically simulate fracture propagation in dynamic stress situations. The impact of loading rates, material characteristics, and crack geometries on crack growth patterns are assessed in a thorough parametric research. The work uses sophisticated computational methods …

Study of Strength of Composite Laminates with Ply- Discontinuities Using FEM
Abstract: Present research work attempts to understand the effect of ply-discontinuities on the strength of the FRP Composite. Finite Element Analyses have been performed for specimen undergoing four-point bend loading condition using ABAQUS software. Three specimens consisting of different ply sequences, same resin pocket size and location have been considered for the present analysis. Cohesive zone modelling technique is implemented to simulate and predict crack propagation pattern during failure of composite …

Mechanical Performance and Material Properties of Nsm CFRP Polymer System
Abstract: Near-surface mounting systems are an advanced embedded technique application of CFRP composites in which the efficiency of the structure is mostly dominated by polymer matrix properties and interface stress transfer mechanisms. This review presents a holistic materials-based perspective on the experiment, analytical, and numerical studies conducted on the NSM-CFRP composite system, specifically on the behavior of the epoxy adhesive, interfacial behavior of composite–substrate system, and related structure–property relationships. The literature …

Interfacial Bonding Efficiency in Jute-Carbon Fiber Polyester Matrix Composites Evaluated Through Short Beam Shear and Interlaminar Fracture Toughness Testing
Abstract: The natural Fiber–synthetic Fiber hybrid composites are jute–carbon Fiber hybrid in polyester matrix which could be used in semi-structural applications of automotive, construction and marine industry as an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative of conventional carbon Fiber reinforced polymer. But the hydrophilic nature of jute Fibers and the relatively inert surface of carbon Fiber's cause weak bonding at the interface of the polyester matrix, which causes premature delamination, poor interlaminar shear …

Numerical and Experimental Investigation on I-type Damage Evolution in Glass Fiber Reinforced Laminates Subjected to Quasi Static Loading
Abstract: Glass fiber reinforced polymer composites has become more popular material used in aerospace and marine structural applications due to their specific strength and anti-corrosion properties. The present work discusses the numerical and experimental investigation on I-type damage evaluation in glass fiber reinforced laminates under quasi-static loading is presented. Three volume fraction of glass and resin (40/60, 50/50 and 60/40) plies were selected for both numerical and experimental damage analysis. The …

Static and Dynamic Analysis for Optimum PZT Positioning and Optimum Voltage in a Delaminated Smart Composite Beam
Abstract: This paper conducts a comprehensive static and dynamic analysis of a delaminated composite beam with and without a piezoelectric layer making use of the principle of minimum potential energy. A new finite element model for composite laminate with delamination defect using cohesive zone method is developed using ANSYS APDL. A lead zirconate titanate (PZT) patch is embedded over the delaminated model following the results obtained from static analysis. The work …

A methodology for the determination of bearing capacity of granular soils with plate loading tests
Abstract: In granular soils, due to the inability to collect undisturbed samples of soil for geotechnical laboratory tests or the impracticality of carrying out dynamic penetration tests, highlights the necessity to find a useful approach in the engineering geological practice for the determination of bearing capacity. In these soils the determination of bearing capacity can be evaluated with several formula that necessary require the estimation of the friction angle: this leads …
