Boiling Heat Transfer Enhancement on Macro-, Micro- and Nano-scales
Abstract: This paper presents a review of investigations on boiling heat transfer enhancement on macro-, micro- and nano-scale surfaces and fluids by the authors at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) plus known results of other researchers. These investigations were conducted with the purpose of increasing safety and efficiency of power generating systems. The investigations were focused on such problems as effective cooling at high heat flux (1 MW/m2 and more), …

Dependency of pure liquid pool boiling heat transfer coefficient to bubble contact angle on roughened Brass heater in new model
Abstract: Heat transfer coefficient of nucleate pool boiling Nucleation is a basic part of phase transformations, which plays an important role in understanding and describing any phase change processes. For a boiling process, nucleation appears in the initial stage, and directly affects bubble formation and boiling intensity. According to the heterophase fluctuations which induce phase transition, the phase change has two main types. Classically, phase change caused by the fluctuation with …

Heat Transfer in Pool Boiling of H2O/LiBr Mixture
Abstract: This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation carried out to study the heat transfer in saturated nucleate pool boiling of the H2O/LiBr bromide mixture on a heated vertical copper cylindrical rod at atmospheric pressure. The mass fraction of lithium bromide was varied from 0 to 0.5. It was observed that the heat transfer coefficient increased for the mixture with an increase in heat flux and lithium bromide concentration. …

Choking & Corrosion in Biomass Fired Boilers
Abstract: Biomass or Agricultural Waste is being widely projected and Promoted as an alternate to Fossil Fuels. Not only the reserves of Fossil Fuels - Coal and Oil are getting depleted, they are responsible for adding to the menace of pollution. Hence Biomass aptly qualifies as a non-polluting and renewable source of energy. One of the direct and common use of Biomass Fuel is for producing heat by combustion in a …

Mechanism of Cryosurgery: A review
Abstract: The cryosurgery is a useful surgical technique in which the undesirable tissue such as tumors are easily removed by extreme cooling. Cryosurgery’s primitive benefit is that as a percutaneous method, it minimizes the invasiveness and cost associated with conventional surgery. Various types of Cryogens which are used in cryosurgery include nitrogen oxide, liquid nitrogen and liquid argon having boiling temperature of -89.5°C, -196°C, and -187°C respectively. Generally liquid nitrogen (LN2) …

Milk Pasteurization Process by using Vortex Tube
Abstract: Milk has been a part of our life for many years it’s very essential to pasteurize the raw milk to destroy the unwanted microorganisms from the raw milk. Pasteurization is the process in which milk is boiled up to a certain temperature and cool it down at a certain temperature due to the sudden rise in temperature the Bacteria is removed from the milk. A plate heat exchanger is used …
