Extraction and Characterization of Pectin from Malabar Tamarind, and Indian Wild Lime
Abstract: Pectin is a versatile heteropolysaccharide that is widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, and biomedical industries because of its gelling, stabilizing, and emulsifying properties. This review discusses the extraction of pectin from agro-waste peels of Malabar tamarind (Garcinia cambogia) and Indian wild lime (Citrus indica) using conventional acid hydrolysis under optimized conditions: pH 1.5–2.0, 85–90°C, and 90 minutes. The process resulted in 22.5% and 27.8% pectin yields, respectively, verified through …

Development and Characterization of a Solid Dispersion of an Anti-Diabetic Drug Using Pectin as a Natural Polymer
Abstract: Aim: The current study sought to improve the solubility and oral bioavailability of gliclazide by creating solid dispersions and oral dispersible tablets (ODTs) with enhanced physicochemical characteristics and maintained antidiabetic action. Methods: Preformulation studies were conducted to evaluate the physicochemical properties of gliclazide, including physical appearance, melting point, solubility, and partition coefficient. Solid dispersions were prepared using hydrophilic carriers-pectin and PVP K30, and subsequently characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy …

Properties of Biodegradable Films based on Pectin, Mango Kernel Flour and Unrefined Palm Oil
Abstract: This study allowed to develop biodegradable films based on pectin, incorporating mango kernel flour and unrefined palm oil, whose physical and mechanical properties were investigated. Results highlighted the feasibility of developing of these composite films. The film properties showed variability in color, physical, barrier and mechanical properties, depending to concentration of ingredients. Biodegradable films obtained are homogeneous, non-cracked, uniform, and color is mainly orange. Opacity of films increased with the …

Exploring Polymer Biocomposite as a Sustainable Filter for Water Treatment
Abstract: The present study explores the utilization of polylactic acid (PLA), a renewable polymer combined with surface-modified nanocellulose (SMNC), and pectin derived from Borassus flabellifer leaves and fruits respectively. Existing methods of filtration are synthetic and affect the environment and public health at an alarming rate thereby making biopolymer-based membranes a greener and effective approach for water treatment. PLA-SMNC-pectin biofilm was fabricated using 88.5 mg PLA, 3.5% (wt. % of PLA) …

Host Suitability of Trichogrammatoidea Bactrae Nagaraja on Different Host Eggs
Abstract: Trichogrammatoidea bactrae Nagaraja (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatoidea) is a highly effective egg parasitoid for controlling lepidopteran pests. This study evaluates its host suitability and biological characteristics across various lepidopteran eggs, specifically Corcyra cephalonica Stainton (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), Spodoptera litura Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), Helicoverpa armigera Hubner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), and Pectinophora gossypiella Saunders (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae). The results indicate that T. bactrae shows the highest parasitization rates on C. cephalonica, …

Finite Element Formulation for Mechanical Buckling of FGM Plate Exposed to Various Boundary Conditions
Abstract: Mechanical buckling analysis of functionally graded (FG) material plates based on first-order shear deformation theory. In the real world many components manufactured by FG materials face the buckling load under certain conditions. Various types of gradation law for tailoring the material properties are applied by the researcher, out of that, presently a simple power law for material gradation is applied with shear correction factor (SCF) is used to take account …

Floating In-Situ Gel for Gastric Retention Delivery
Abstract: When taken orally, medications with a limited window of absorption in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) are typically accessible to the extremities due to the partial release of the active component and the brief residence period at the absorption site. Because they prolong the duration of the drug's presence in the stomach, they are made with high density and have the capacity to swell. Because oral fluids go more quickly through …

Evaluation of Bio-Based Polymer Composites Containing Guava Leaf Extract for Antimicrobial Functionality
Abstract: This study explores the formulation of an herbal soap using guava leaf extract as a primary ingredient. Guava leaves are a rich source of biopolymers like pectin and cellulose, which may contribute to the binding properties in the soap. The antimicrobial activity of the soap was evaluated against common skin pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Trichoderma spp., Aspergillus spp.). The formulated soap exhibited inhibitory effects against all tested pathogens. The weight, foaming …

Experimental Investigation and Surface Morphology Study on Areca Fiber Composite Material
Abstract: Composites manufactured from areca fibers had their characteristics assessed in recent research. Shape and size were determined by cutting the stem. It takes six months to dry the fibers once they are taken from the tree stem. Because pectin, cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin make up the bulk of it. It has great regeneration capacity and is a resource material made of wood fibers. The untreated and chemically treated fibers are …
