Characterization of a Broadly Specific LPS-Neutralizing Single Domain Antibody
Abstract: Gram negative endotoxaemia or sepsis remains a lethal challenge to humans and animals, globally. Single domain antibodies (dAbs) have emerged as therapeutic biologics for challenging antigens such as lipopolysachharide (LPS). The present study characterized a broadly specific LPS-neutralising dAb produced from phage display library from LPS-immunized Indian desert camel, for its sequence validation with mass spectrometry. Also, the dAb clone 26 was subjected to co-crystallisation with LPS, extracted from E. …

Mineralization of Phenanthrene by Paenibacillus sp. PRNK-6: Effect of Synthetic Surfactants on its Mineralization
Abstract: Paenibacillus sp. PRNK-6 isolated from a soil contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was able to utilize 69.48% of phenanthrene (320 mg l-1) in 48 h. The effect of three synthetic surfactants namely, the nonionic surfactant Tween-80, the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and the cationic surfactant cetyltrymethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) on the phenanthrene mineralization by Paenibacillus sp. PRNK-6 was studied. Results showed that the effect of each surfactant …

A Review on Estimation of Hb Percentage and Electrophoretic Pattern in Low Hb Count Cancer Patient
Abstract: Haemoglobin is a protein in the red blood cells that carry oxygen. Hb evaluation is a fast, valid and trustworthy method to detect blood deficiency. Direct cyanmethemoglobin has been the gold standard method for Hb estimation but there are many other methods available as well, for example, haemoglobin colour scale, Sahli method, Lovibond-Drabkin method, Tallqvist technique, copper sulphate method, HemoCue, automated haematology analysers and complete blood count to name a …

Comparison between Intravenous Injection of Iron Sucrose and Oral Administration of Iron for the Treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Pregnancy
Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic benefits of intravenous iron and oral iron administration for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in pregnancy. A total of 50 patients with gestational age between 25 and 35 weeks with established IDA with Hemoglobin (Hb) 7–9 g/dl were randomized to receive either oral ferrous sulphate 200 mg twice daily or required dose of intravenous iron sucrose 200 mg …

A Crisis Situation Due to Uranium and Heavy Metal Contamination of Ground Waters in Punjab State, India: A Preliminary Report
Abstract: Punjab is facing a crisis situation due to high levels of uranium (U) and heavy metals in underground water table of Punjab. Uranium poisoning in Punjab first made news in March 2009, when a South African Clinical Metal Toxicologist, Carin Smit, visiting Faridkot city in Punjab found surprisingly high levels of uranium in 88% of the blood samples collected from the Baba Farid Centre for Special Children in the Malwa …

Study of Nickel Toxicity and Recovery in Freshwater Major Carp Catla catla
Abstract: The present work was carried out to examine the hazardous effects of chronic intoxication of nickel ions in Catla catla, a fresh water major carp. Fingerlings were exposed to sublethal concentrations of nickel sulphate solution (5 ppm and 10 ppm) for 21 days and histotoxicity in liver, brain and intestine was studied periodically. Normal architecture of hepatocytes was disrupted. The histopathological manifestations observed in the liver were congestion of hepatocytes, …

Systematic Hydroponic Review and Cultivation Strategies for Bacopa Monnieri
Abstract: Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst. (Brahmi; Plantaginaceae) is a medicinally important herb whose nootropic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties derive largely from a group of triterpenoid saponins known as bacosides. Rising global demand for such compounds has made reliable, high-yield production a research priority and has prompted a search for cultivation systems superior to conventional field cultivation. This review compares field cultivation, in vitro micropropagation, bioreactor culture, hydroponics and elicitation for their …

An Overview on the Characterization and Investigation of Polymerized Bio-Ceramics for Bone Regenerative Applications
Abstract: Many osseous faults resulting from fracture offer inherent capacity of the body to overhaul and activate the bone grafts for recovery process. In the early development, nonautologous bone grafts made of Titanium and stainless steel were suitable because of their mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and durability. Biodegradable polymers belonging to the family of polymers and bioceramics also, play a major role in orthopaedics. The polymers, poly glycolic acid, poly …

Durability study of flyash induced polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete
Abstract: The need for sustainable and durable construction materials has led to the use of supplementary cementitious materials and synthetic fibers in concrete. The use of fly ash and polypropylene fibers (PPF) could improve the mechanical properties and durability of the concrete while also reducing the environmental impact of concrete production. Flyash and fibres are the recognised replacement which can add to the unique properties to the Portland cement, The use …
