An Overview on Microwave Remote Sensing for Earth Observation
Abstract: To understand the Earth from space, one must look beyond the visible eye. While optical satellites rely on the Sun’s reflection much like the human eye they are frequently blinded by the curtain of cloud cover, smoke, or the dark veil of night. To bypass these limitations, we turn to Microwave Satellite Sensing. By utilizing electromagnetic waves with wavelengths ranging from 1 millimeter to 1 meter, we can see through …

Catalyst-Driven Degradation and Failure Analysis of Intergranular Cracking in 316H Studded Pipes under Refinery Heat Recovery Conditions
Abstract: A failure analysis investigation was carried out on a high-temperature studded pipe used in a convection module for heat recovery in an oil and gas refinery application after leakage was detected during pre-commissioning hydrotesting. The investigated pipe was manufactured from AISI 316H austenitic stainless steel, and carbon steel studs had been joined to its outer surface by high-frequency resistance welding. Two leaks were reported in the pipe under investigation, and …

Anti-Soiling Coating Technologies for PV Panels Under Dust Storm Conditions
Abstract: Background: Deployment of photovoltaics (PV) in arid and semi-arid areas where there is ample sunlight has been increasing quickly because of their high solar irradiation. The rising number of dust storms, as well as depositing particulate matter into the air, has caused a significant decrease in energy production due to reduced transmittance of light through the surface of the PV panel from the dust on the panel’s surface. This has …
