Prediction of Depth-Induced Stress Distribution and Maintenance Cost Implications for Submerged Structural Components
Abstract: This study investigates the influence of water depth on stress distribution and structural integrity of submerged mechanical components . Structural models fabricated from mild steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, and copper alloy were examined under hydrostatic loading corresponding to water depths between 30 cm and 150 cm. Results indicate that normal and shear stresses increased proportionally with depth due to intensified hydrostatic pressure. Mild steel exhibited the highest stress concentrations, …

Towards a Geo-Classification of the Niger Delta for Highway Investment Costing Applications
Abstract: The study carries out a quasi-experimentation, as a basis of devising a spatial quantitative concept, delineating distinct geologic settings which would have differing cost implications for highway infrastructure development in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Three broad conceptual geomorphic boundaries, for the categorisation of Niger Delta soils in engineering geologic costing application, were discerned within this conceptual lens. A Study on the Low Salinity Waterflooding (LSW) in a Part of a Depleted Oilfield of Upper Assam Basin
Abstract: Maximizing the hydrocarbon recovery from depleted oilfields is the biggest challenge now a days which becomes an opportunity for advanced EOR technologies. One of such EOR technology that can promote the oil recovery efficiency from such fields is the low salinity waterfloofing (LSW) which gains the attention of many researchers due to its easiness to use implications, less cost and environment-friendly nature. Different studies have shown that fines migration, pH …

Benchmarking Cost Overruns in Transportation Infrastructure Investments
Abstract: Highway projects have historically experienced significant cost overruns, with front end implications for the sustainability of transportation investments. However, the criteria for assessing cost overruns continues to elicit diverse opinions and has become a debatable issue in the literature. Some studies allude to detailed design stage estimates, while others tag conceptual stage estimates, as the ideal benchmark for quantifying the project cost deviations. A survey of the literature, principally from …

Economic Sustainability of Transportation Infrastructure Procurement: The Differing Site Condition Clause Debate as an Underlying Environmental Trigger to Cost Overruns
Abstract: Case law is rife with contractual disputes arising due to lack of adequate geotechnical risk containment during procurement. The use of a ‘Differing Site Conditions (DSC) clause’, implies that, in the event of encountering a subsurface/geo-environmental condition different from that which was indicated in the contract, the owner bears the additional cost for executing the work under such conditions. However, the literature indicates a divergence in industry practise, with some …

Assessing Air Quality, Climate Change, and Migration Dynamics in Delhi NCR: A System Dynamics Approach
Abstract: As climate change accelerates and environmental degradation worsens, urban centers like Delhi NCR are under increasing pressure from internal migration. Poor air quality—especially in rural and peri-urban regions—emerges both as a driver of out-migration and a deterrent for in-migration to already burdened cities. This study develops a system dynamics (SD) model that integrates climate variables, air pollution metrics, economic indicators, governance quality, and migration behavior to simulate population flows into …

Abstract: Worldwide, the steel industry is expanding almost everywhere. Compared to the USA, EU, and other developed nations, India uses less steel in the construction industry. Additionally, India's cities have some of the highest population densities per square kilometre, which limits horizontal construction growth and favours vertical development. Steel structures are more ductility and can undergo more deflections while concrete structures are larger and attracts more seismic weight. Hybrid construction combines …
