Abstract

In an attempt to find a new class of antimicrobial agents, a series of fused benzopyran derivatives containing pyrimidine moiety were prepared via the reaction of 2-(1h-benzo[d] imidazol-2-yl acetonitrile with 2-amino-3-(1h-benzo[d] imidazol-2-yl)-4-phenyl-4h-chromen-7-ol in the presence of piperidine and anhydrous zinc chloride. The target molecules were also synthesized using interchange component strategy. These compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes), gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli). The compounds exhibited good to moderate antibacterial properties against tested microorganisms. Structures of the newly synthesized compounds were established by elemental analysis and spectral data. Keywords: Benzopyran, chloroacetyl chloride, benzyl-triethyl-ammonium chloride, bromoethyl acetate, lithium hydroxide, antibacterial activity Cite this ArticleBibi Fareesa Banu, Rajesh Babu Y, Ausaf Butool, et al.
