Well Integrity and Reservoir Behavior under Sudden Field Shutdowns During Armed Conflicts: A Comprehensive Technical Review
Abstract: In the oil and gas industry, the sudden and unplanned cessation of operations resulting from armed conflicts or pandemics typically poses complex and multifaceted technical challenges to both well integrity and reservoir behavior. Minimal or no opportunity for proper pre-shutdown preservation procedures in unplanned shutdowns, unlike planned shutdowns that follow established operational protocols. The mechanisms and consequences of well integrity degradation and reservoir performance alteration under such conditions are synthesized …

Structural and Hydrogeological Characterization of the Olkaria Dome Geothermal Field, Lake Naivasha Basin
Abstract: The Olkaria Dome Geothermal Field in the Lake Naivasha Basin is one of Kenya's principal geothermal resource areas, where fluid circulation and reservoir performance are strongly controlled by geological structures and hydrogeological conditions. This study integrates geological, structural, hydrogeological, mineralogical, and soil-gas data to characterize reservoir permeability and fluid flow pathways. Correlation of lithological units with drilling circulation-loss zones identifies highly fractured formations that enhance geothermal fluid movement. Mineralogical mapping …

Pressure Data Analysis and Reservoir Parameter Estimation of Kailastilla Gas Field (Well No. KTL-01 and KTL-02)
Abstract: Well testing has been the subject of research for many decades. Well tests are performed in order to estimate reservoir properties. These estimations are needed to predict the amount of oil or gas that can be produced, and to determine a strategy how to produce this predicted amount. The current method to estimate the reservoir properties seems cumbersome and inefficient. Also, uncertainty regions of the estimated properties are not yet …

PVT Analysis: Validity Checks and EOS Turning Techniques for Retrograde Condensate Reservoirs
Abstract: PVT analysis is pertinent to field-wide development and optimization. This is because we need to know the over-all behavior of the fluid from reservoir through production and process facilities, down to the refinery. Its emergence as a separate discipline has been supported by the development of modern computer software that utilize EOS models for simulating experiments and representing fluid phase behaviours. PVT simulations are carried out to determine operating conditions …

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Process through Miscible Gas Injection: A Case Study of an Iranian Oil Reservoir
Abstract: Speedy computers and development in equations’ numerical solutions have enhanced applying simulation to predict the behavior of oil and gas reservoirs. The pressure in hydrocarbon reservoirs reduces overtime due to utilization of oil and gas resources until the fluid pressure itself is no more able to transfer it to the surface, and even if it reaches to the surface, its production is not cost-effective. Whereas, large amounts of hydrocarbon resources …

Effects of Fracture Properties on Oil Recovery in Tight Reservoirs
Abstract: Unconventional reservoirs, characterized by low permeability are gradually becoming a force to reckon with in today’s world owing to the rapid depletion of conventional resources. However, low oil production from tight reservoirs can be mitigated by implementing hydraulic fracturing. In this study, Schlumberger’s eclipse-100 simulator was used to simulate various scenarios in order to determine the best fracture geometry and the effects of fracture properties on oil recovery. The properties …

A New Description of Multi-phase Flow Behavior at Boundary Layers of Low-permeability Porous Media
Abstract: At present, the recovery factor of low permeability oilfield in China is only about 20%, which is enormously lower than the recovery factor index of 60% by using water-chemical flooding in medium and high permeability layer. There are a lot of causes that resulted in low recovery factor, among them that the complex pore structure, tiny throat, large pore throat ratio and non-Darcy flow in low-permeability oil layer are the …

Predictability of Equation of State (EoS)-based Gas Hydrate Models for Single and Binary Gas Mixtures
Abstract: The better models are necessary to design and understand the phase behavior of produced trapped natural gas from natural gas hydrates from subsea environments. Most of the models available in an open literature are primarily applicable at relatively low pressure condition thus making their use very limited for gas hydrate reservoir modeling. In order to produce methane from these gas hydrates, it is important to understand the phase behavior through …

Experimental Study on the Impact of Polymer (PAM) in Enhancing Oil Recovery in Upper Assam Basin Oil fields
Abstract: The Upper Assam Basin, one of India’s most mature and extensively exploited hydrocarbon provinces, is experiencing declining oil production due to reservoir depletion and unfavorable crude oil–brine–rock (COBR) interactions. In this context, alkali–polymer (AP) flooding has emerged as a promising chemical enhanced oil recovery (EOR) strategy. AP flooding reduces interfacial tension (IFT) through in-situ surfactant generation by alkali and improves sweep efficiency via polymer-based mobility control, typically using polyacrylamide (PAM). …

Relative Permeability Study in Part of Geleki Oil field of Upper Assam Basin
Abstract: Relative permeability is a critical parameter for evaluation of reservoir performance. Relative permeability is a direct measure of the ability of the porous medium to allow flow of one fluid when two or more fluids are present. This flow property is the composite effect of pore-geometry, wettability, fluid saturation, saturation history, reservoir temperature, reservoir pressure, overburden pressure, rock-types, porosity and permeability types. The relative permeability curves are very important in …

Primary well control and secondary well control are used to control influx entry into a well during drilling operations. Primary well control refers to making the overbalance by the hydrostatic pressure exerted by drilling fluid on the formation pressure. Secondary well control refers to controlling the kick through the use …

Study of Physical and Chemical Properties of Heavy Waxy Crude Oil from Cambay Basin Using Rheometer and Cross-Polar Microscope
Abstract: Production of heavy crude is quite difficult as the pressure drops from reservoir to production facility are quite large. This often leads to the precipitation and deposition of common organic solids (paraffin). These solids may deposit on surfaces, collect in low-energy regions or increase the effective viscosity of the flowing fluid. The net effect is an increase in pressure drop for a given rate through reduction in flowing area or …
