Novel MOSFET Based Pressure Sensor That Uses Combined Channel Piezoresistance and Gate Capacitance Effects
Abstract: The paper considers modeling and analysis of a square and circular diaphragm Suspended Gate MOSFET based pressure sensor using COMSOL Multiphysics. Two structures, one a square with an n-channel MOSFET at the center and the second a circle with a p-channel MOSFET at the edge of the diaphragm were simulated. The piezoresistance effect of the channel and capacitance variation due to the suspended gate have been exploited in designing the …

Multifunctional Lignin-Modified Jute/Bio-Epoxy Composites with MWCNT-Based Piezoresistive Self-Sensing for Sustainable Housing Applications
Abstract: This study develops a multifunctional natural-fibre-reinforced polymer composite based on alkali-treated jute fabric, bio-based epoxy, kraft lignin and a small amount of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), with particular emphasis on polymer-matrix modification, fibre–matrix interfacial behaviour and intrinsic damage sensing. Kraft lignin was incorporated at 0, 2, 4 and 6 wt.% to examine its influence on polymer-chain mobility, interfacial morphology, thermal stability and mechanical response, while 0.5 wt.% MWCNTs was introduced …

Tactile Sensing Technologies in Robotics: A Review of Sensors, Materials, and Applications
Abstract: Tactile sensing, which closely resembles the human sense of touch, is an essential capability in modern robotics. It enables robots to detect and interpret physical interactions with objects, surfaces, and living beings, thereby allowing them to operate more intelligently and adaptively in complex environments. Unlike visual or auditory sensors, tactile sensors provide direct feedback about contact, pressure, texture, force, temperature, and even vibration. These sensory cues are vital for improving …

ML-Enhanced Smart Sensing Framework for IoT- Based Structural Health Monitoring Using Conductive Polymer Composites
Abstract: The growing demand for intelligent structural health monitoring (SHM) in dynamic infrastructures necessitates flexible sensing systems that are not only mechanically robust but also capable of real-time interpretation. Conventional SHM frameworks often rely on brittle sensor configurations and cloud-dependent processing pipelines, which suffer from latency, limited durability, and poor adaptability under variable loading conditions. Despite recent advances in composite materials and machine learning, current approaches lack a unified framework that …

Electroactive Graphene–Polymer Nanocomposites for Self-Sustaining and Multifunctional Flexible Devices
Abstract: Graphene–reinforced polymer–composites were developed and systematically investigated to explore their multifunctionality in flexible electronic applications. The study specifically aims to correlate graphene-induced structure–property–function relationships with electroactive performance and self-sustaining behaviour in flexible devices. The hybridization of electroactive polymers—polyaniline (PANI), poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulphonate (PEDOT:PSS), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)—with graphene nanoplatelets enabled simultaneous enhancement of electroactivity, energy-harvesting, and sensing functionalities. Morphological studies confirmed uniform graphene dispersion at 5 wt.% loading, forming continuous …

AI-Integrated Graphene-Modified Polymer Interfaces for Real-Time Crack Detection and Autonomous Healing in Smart Concrete Structures
Abstract: This study presents the design and development of a graphene-reinforced multifunctional polymer composite interface engineered for structural reinforcement, self-sensing, and autonomous healing applications in cementitious systems. A thermosetting polymer matrix embedded with graphene nanoplatelets (0.25–1.5 wt.%) was developed to establish a conductive polymer nano-composite network. Electrical characterization confirmed a distinct percolation threshold at ~0.6–0.8 wt.%, beyond which a sharp increase in conductivity was observed due to the formation of interconnected …
