Fracture Analysis of Laminated composite plates using Extended Finite Element Method: A Review
Abstract: Laminated composite plates are used in aerospace, automotive, and marine industries. They feature great durability against fatigue, a high strength-to-weight ratio, and mechanical attributes that may be altered. However, they are prone to fracture and delamination under complex loading, requiring accurate fracture analysis for structural integrity. Traditional finite element methods (FEM) need extensive mesh refinement for modelling crack propagation which increases the computational costs. The Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) …

Cubic B-splines for Isogeometric Analysis of Laminated Composite Plates Subjected to Hygroscopic Loading Using Classical Laminated Plate Theory
Abstract: Composite laminates are inevitably used in several engineering structures due to their high strength and stiffness to weight ratio. The laminates are subjected to change in moisture content and the flexural behavior leads to change in the strength. Presence of moisutre may induce residual stresses and strains. Isogeometric analysis is a well-proven method to perform analysis of laminated composite plates. The main focus of this study is to apply isogeometric …

Dynamic Analysis of Honeycomb Sandwich Laminated Composite Plate using ANSYS
Abstract: A structural sandwich is a peculiar form of a laminated composite comprising of a combination of distinct materials which are bonded together to use effectively the properties of each separate component to the structural advantage of the whole assembly. Two thin, rigid and quite strong faces in the framework are partitioned by a thick, light and weaker core. The faces are attached adhesively to the core to ensure effective load …

Structural Performance Evaluation of Circular Perforated Plates under Mechanical Loading
Abstract: Circular perforated plates are structurally critical components in aerospace, automotive, and marine sectors, where perforation-induced stress concentrations govern failure under mechanical loading. This study conducts a systematic finite element analysis of stress distribution, deformation, and interlaminar behavior in aluminum and glass-epoxy laminates ([−45/45/90/0]S and [−45/45/90/0]AS) under uniform transverse pressure with clamped-free boundary conditions. Four perforation configurations—no hole, central hole, single-series, and 25-hole grid—were evaluated using ANSYS Shell-181, verified against Kirchhoff–Love, …

Free Vibration Analysis of Circular Perforated Laminated Plates
Abstract: This study investigates the free vibration characteristics of circular perforated laminated composite plates. A finite element model is created to analyze the effects of perforation patterns, hole sizes, and laminate configurations on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of these structures. The model incorporates shear deformation theory and accounts for the anisotropic nature of composite materials. Parametric studies were held to examine how varying perforation geometries, including hole diameter, spacing, …

Thermal Analysis of Isotropic and Orthotropic Plate by Trigonometric Shear Deformation Theory
Abstract: In the present study, a sinusoidal shear and normal deformation theory taking into account effects of transverse shear as well as transverse normal is used to develop the analytical solution for the bidirectional bending analysis of isotropic, transversely isotropic, laminated composite and sandwich rectangular plates. Governing equations and boundary conditions of the theory are obtained using the principle of virtual work. The Navier solution for simply supported laminated composite plates …

Enhancing Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Epoxy Composites with Silicon Carbide Additives
Abstract: This study explores the production and characterization of glass fiber-reinforced epoxy resin composites enhanced with silicon carbide (SiC) as a reinforcing filler. The primary objective is to evaluate the impact of SiC on the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of the composites. Four different samples with varying SiC weight fractions (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) were prepared, keeping the glass fiber content constant. The composites were fabricated using a combination …
