Fabrication and Comparative Study of Synthetic and Eggshell Waste Derived Hydroxyapatite-Based Composites for Biomedical Applications
Abstract: Hydroxyapatite is widely used as a bioceramic material in orthopedic and dental field because of its exceptional biocompatibility and bioactivity. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) doped with several mineral ions has been frequently reported to further enhance its bioactive nature. Several studies indicate that biological waste materials can serve as calcium sources for hydroxyapatite synthesis, with eggshells being one such promising source. In the present work, two types of hydroxyapatite were synthesized: pure …

Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene-Based Hydroxyapatite Using Hydrothermal Method for Its Biomedical Application
Abstract: Developing bone implant materials that combine biological compatibility with mechanical strength remains a major challenge in orthopedic research. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) closely mimics bone mineral and supports cell growth, but its brittleness limits load-bearing applications. To address this, a quaternary nanocomposite of hydroxyapatite (HAp), graphene (Gr), zirconia (ZrO2), and ferrocene (Fc) (Hap-Gr-ZrO₂-Fc) was synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal process. Graphene and zirconia provided reinforcement, while ferrocene contributed structural stability and carbon …

Mechanical and Physicochemical Characteristics of Nano-Hydroxyapatite Polymer Composites
Abstract: This study focuses on the development and characterization of nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp)-reinforced poly (lactic acid) (PLA) composites for biomedical applications. The composites, prepared with varying nHAp content (5–25 wt%), were evaluated for their mechanical and physicochemical properties, including tensile strength, Young’s modulus, elongation at break, thermal stability, hydrophilicity, and crystallinity. Results revealed that tensile strength increased significantly with the incorporation of nHAp, reaching a peak of 62 MPa at 15 wt%, …

Wettability and Physiothermal Analysis of Silver-Reinforced Eggshell-Derived Hydroxyapatite Based Biocomposite
Abstract: Hydroxyapatite (HAp), a biocompatible ceramic material, has garnered significant interest in medical applications due to its natural bone type replica. The current study investigates the physical, wettability, and thermal properties of a novel HAp derived from eggshell waste and reinforced with silver nanoparticles at 0.0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 weight % concentration using chemical precipitation method and termed as HAP0.0Ag, HAP0.1Ag, HAP0.2Ag and HAP0.5Ag respectively. As observed, the Fourier transform …

Influence of Acidic Naf-Hf Solution on Dental Minerals
Abstract: The effect of solutions of sodium fluoride in hydrofluoric acid on the fluoride-dental minerals reaction system was investigated. The fluoride concentration in each fluoride solution was kept at 1.23% as the fluoride concentration in the acidulated phosphate fluoride solution at pH 3. The acidic sodium fluoride-hydrofluoric acid solutions with different contents of sodium fluoride and hydrofluoric acid were prepared. These solutions were added to synthetic powder hydroxyapatite and calcium hydrogen …

Valorization of Human and Cattle Dental Waste into Functional Composite Biomaterials: A Detailed Comparative Analysis
Abstract: This study investigates the conversion of human and cattle (goat and cow) teeth into bioactive hydroxyapatite-based composites and presents a detailed comparative evaluation of these biogenic materials with laboratory-synthesised (synthetic) hydroxyapatite (HAp). In this work, hydroxyapatite was extracted from human and bovine teeth through controlled calcination and milling, while synthetic HAp was prepared using a standard wet chemical precipitation route. All materials were subsequently sintered at 900 °C and fabricated …
