Asymmetrical Light Propagation in 2D Photonic Crystal Structure
Abstract: In this work, using Plane Wave Expansion (PWE) and two-dimensional Finite Difference Time Domain (2D-FDTD) methods, we design a structure that shows the high asymmetry in propagation of light. Structure is based on two-dimensional Photonic Crystal (2D-PC) consisting of square lattice (39 X 39) of infinitely long circular rods of refractive index 2.9 in the background of refractive index 1. Radius of rods is 0.15a, where a is the lattice …

Improved Low Confinement Photonic Crystal Fiber with Ultra Flattened Dispersion
Abstract: AbstractIn this study, to obtain lower value of dispersion with flatness for wideband, more complicated design will be proposed with multiple-hole diameter and shapes. Confinement loss is also reduced by increasing the number of rings. We optimized cladding region in which there are holes of different diameter and shapes. Numerical investigation shows that value of confinement loss is very low -0.00116 dB/Km and ultra-flat dispersion over wideband at operating frequency …

Design of Plasmonic Based Splitters for WDM Applications
Abstract: AbstractPlasmonics has special property of metallic nanostructures to allow manipulation and routing of light at nanoscale. In this paper, 1×2 and 1×4 splitters are designed using metal-insulator-metal (MIM) plasmonic waveguides. These proposed splitter designs could be used to conquer various filtering devices for high assimilation in surface plasmon polaritons based metallic surfaces. The results are verified using finite difference time domain (FDTD).Keywords: Plasmonics waveguides, surface plasmons, finite difference time domain …

Bandgap Analysis of Quasi Bandgap Semiconductor Using FDTD Technique
Abstract: In this work photonic bandgap analysis of boron nitride (BN) quasi bandgap semiconductor is investigated using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. Here boron nitride semiconductor is cogitated as a-BN, h-BN, c-BN and w-BN semiconductor, where boron nitride is realized by the combination of two BN semiconductor layers separated by air. An Optimized Configuration of Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) for High Birefrigent and Low Loss Application using FDTD Method
Abstract: AbstractTwo simplified structures are theoretically designed for high birefringence and low loss guiding photonic crystal fiber at operating wavelength 1.55 µm. The effective index, birefringence and confinement loss are obtained using finite difference time domain method. Simulation result shows that the maximum modal birefringence is equal to 86.33x10-5 for one configuration and lowest confinement loss in another configuration is nearly equal to 0.70x10-2 dB/Km at same operating wavelength.Keyword: birefringence, FDTD …

Calculating SAR Distribution and RF Electromagnetic Field Due To MRI Coil at Human Model
Abstract: AbstractMRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is an effective method for diagnosis of diseases. The MRI system is made of some important units including RF (radio frequency) devices [1]. The RF coil is one of the important parts in the RF unit. During the imaging, the RF coil radiates EM (electromagnetic) pulse to the human body and in response receives the NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) signals emitted from the nuclei, which constitutes …

Finite Difference Analysis of Plane Couette Flow using MATLAB
Abstract: Internal flow is a flow for which the fluid is confined by a surface. Hence, the boundary layer is unable to develop without eventually being constrained. An internal flow is constrained by the bounding walls, and the viscous effects will grow and meet and permeate the entire flow. Some examples of internal flows are: flow between two parallel horizontal plates, Couette flow, plane Poiseuille flow, flow through pipes, etc. In …

Analytical Solution to Single Degree of Freedom Bi-Linear Spring Mass Systems Transient Vibration
Abstract: Conventional approach to solution of linear systems under transient vibration has been through Convolution integral or Duhamel integral method which employs the method of superposition of linear solutions to obtain the total solution. Principle of superposition is not possible for non-linear systems and hence transient vibration solution cannot be obtained through classical methods. Nevertheless, the solution to transient vibration for each domain can be obtained as a sum of homogeneous …
