Synthesis and Characterization of Sustainable, Low-Cost, Biomass-Derived Carbon Films from Hevea Brasiliensis (Rubber) Wood for Environmentally Friendly Gas Sensors with Enhanced Selectivity and Sensitivity to Polar Vapors and Hazardous Gases
Abstract: Hevea brasiliensis (rubber) wood sawdust was utilized to fabricate carbon gas sensors for detecting 1000 ppm of ethanol, methanol, acetone, carbon dioxide, and ammonia gases. The carbon particles were prepared by phosphoric acid impregnation followed by thermal activation and then fabricated into films on conductive and non-conductive substrates using the doctor blade method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed distinct graphitic features with peaks at the (002) and (100) planes, indicating …

Activating agents control the morphology of activated carbon materials from biomass
Abstract: The stems of the plant Calotropis gigantea (Cg) were were used as a feedstock for the activated carbon material. Carbonate (K 2 CO 3 ) and oxalate (Na 2 C 2 O 4 ) were used as chemical activating agents. The morphological features of the activated carbon materials were characterized using FEG-SEM. The morphology of the activated carbon materials is found to depend on the type of activating agent used. …

Development of Biomass-Derived Composites From Commodity Plastics Via Pyrolysis For Enhanced Corrosion Protection of Metals
Abstract: Escalating environmental concerns and the depletion of fossil resources have spurred the need for sustainable and eco-friendly materials. By converting plastic waste into valuable carbonaceous materials via pyrolysis, both plastic pollution and resource scarcity can be addressed. The process involves the thermal decomposition of plastics in an inert atmosphere, producing a mixture of gases, liquids, and solid residues rich in carbon. These carbonaceous residues are then incorporated with biomass materials …
