Designing Cantilever Prosthesis: A Case Study
Abstract: A critical edentulous situation that tests the ability of a prosthodontist includes simple edentulous situations like when a maxillary lateral incisor is missing. This is not because of difficulty to restore but the greater challenge is which prosthesis to select. Conventionally, cantilever fixed partial denture has been the choice in such situations. Advances in implant have, however affected the occurrence of such cases. However, patients where other treatment options are …

Custom-Made Temporomandibular Joint Replacement Design Process
Abstract: AbstractTemporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a joint of small dimensions composed by two components: condyle, the extremity of mandibular bone, and fossa, in the cranial bone. TMJ is one of the most used human joints, because it is used to talk, eat, and breathe, for example. For this reason, TMJ disorder can significantly impair patient's quality of life. So that, it becomes necessary to replace the natural joint with an alloplastic …

Design of EMG based Control System for Prosthetic Arm
Abstract: Prosthesis, field of bio-mechatronics, is an artificial extension used to replace the function or appearance of a missing limb or lost body part due to injury (traumatic), to correct congenital deficiencies or to supplement defective body parts. A myoelectrically controlled prosthesis detects muscle contractions using electrodes and this electrical activity acts as a signal to activate the prosthesis. In the presented work, the EMG signal is acquired using surface electrodes …

Utilization of 3D Printing Techniques in the Prosthetics Manufacturing: Historical, Current, and Future
Abstract: Prosthetics for people with upper-limb differences have an intriguing and extensive history, yet problems that have not been resolved still exist. Children's prosthesis requirements are more complicated because of their rapid growing. A child's psychological development can be significantly impacted by their access to a technology. Children frequently cannot access technologies that support both cosmetic form and user function because of their high cost, insurance policies, medical availability, perceived durability, …

Orthostride: An Internet of Medical Things-Enabled Smart Rehabilitation Footwear System for Real-Time Monitor
Abstract: The orthopedic rehabilitation goal of controlled weight bearing, a stable gait progression, and early recognition of hazardous situations for safe mobility is traditionally met through time, scheduled in-clinic observation and clinician induction, and patient report. In this work, Orthostride, a smart rehabilitation footwear prototype intended to augment postoperative and injury-related lower extremity restoration through continuous sensing, embedded decision logic, local feedback, and remote telemetry, is proposed. This system incorporates force …

Hand Grasp Recognition and Classification of Prehensile Surface EMG Signals
Abstract: Myoelectric control signals are commonly used as a convenient solution of prosthesis control for the disabled persons or amputees. Surface EMG signal being noninvasive is easy to acquire and is commonly used in prosthetic devices. Myoelectric control system is the fundamental component of modern prostheses, which uses the myoelectric signals from an individual’s muscles to control the prosthesis movements. In this paper data collected from several subjects using four surface …

Evaluation of Neurosensory Function following Inferior Alveolar Nerve Lateralization for Placement of Dental Implants – A Case Report
Abstract: Keeping in tune with recent trends, replacement of missing teeth with implant supported prosthesis is gaining preference over various prosthetic options, i.e., removable partial dentures and fixed partial dentures. This is mainly because in addition to inherent inadequacies in rehabilitation fixed partial dentures include the sacrifice of healthy tooth substance of the adjacent teeth.Implants help us to overcome most problems associated with traditional prosthesis. However, in patients with atrophied mandibles …
