Novel Probe Designs for the Scanning Kelvin Probe System
Abstract: The Scanning Kelvin Probe (SKP) Method is an indirect method to measure the electrochemical potential of a metal. Thus, in order to determine the potential of a given metal it is necessary to measure the Volta potential between it and an electrochemical reference electrode. Various designs of probes were developed to further improve the overall performance of the SKP system. Five novel probes were designed and tested with the SKP …

Fiber Optic Fluorescent Probe for Measurement of Temperature
Abstract: A fiber optic temperature monitoring probe has been developed. Its sensing element uses the temperature sensitive fluorescence of Cu-activated calcium sulphide (CaS) phosphors. These phosphors have been synthesized by solid state fusion reaction. The excitation and emission spectra of the phosphor coatings have been recorded at room temperature (25ºC). The temperature dependence of fluorescence intensity and the lifetime of phosphorescence have also been studied. From the systematic variation of these …

A Nobel Method of Auxiliary Power Consumption Saving by Vibrating Level Probe on Ash Conveying System
Abstract: In thermal power plant, ash conveying system through electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is a vital phenomenon. There are two modes of conveying in thermal power plant ash conveying system-timer mode and probe mode. Timer mode of conveying is done through distributed control system (DCS) logics. Experimental Set Up of Optical Tomography Probe and Visualization of Characteristics of a Taylor Bubble
Abstract: Abstract Conventional methods for the detection of bubbles uses probes which physically protrude into the flow field and thus may affect the flow dynamics, thereby tethering the formation, development and flow of bubbles. In thermal power plant, it is rather difficult to physically see which type of two phase flow is happening in the pipe. In such a case, an optical tomography sees its application. Depending upon the type of …

Study on the Profile and Flow Field Variation of Parachute Coating by Seven-hole Probe Method
Abstract: In general, the parachute test is a long test cycle, expensive, and difficult to measure with accuracy, which makes it a very laborious and time-consuming task. Therefore, attempts have been made to overcome this by using a parachute test stand or by simulation, but in our country, there is no numerical simulation of the parachute and there is no research on it. In this paper, the variation of the shape …

Probing India’s Failure to Produce Nobel Laureates in Science after CV Raman
Abstract: India’s track record is very poor, if we consider the number of Nobel Laureates produced by India since the inception of Nobel Prizes in 1901. Rabindra Nath Tagore was the first Indian recipient to receive this coveted Prize in 1913 in Literature. CV Raman was the second Indian to be awarded this prize in 1930 for his world famous discovery known as ‘Raman Effect’. After these two, some Indians have …

Crystal Defects and Their Characterization in Modern Materials Science
Abstract: The physical and chemical properties of crystalline solids are fundamentally dictated by deviations from structural perfection, known as crystal defects. From the point-scale vacancies that drive diffusion to the planar boundaries that determine mechanical strength, defects serve as the primary "tuning knobs" in material design. This review provides a comprehensive examination of point, line, and planar defects, exploring their formation energetics and their role in plastic deformation via crystallographic slip. …
