A methodology for the determination of bearing capacity of granular soils with plate loading tests
Abstract: In granular soils, due to the inability to collect undisturbed samples of soil for geotechnical laboratory tests or the impracticality of carrying out dynamic penetration tests, highlights the necessity to find a useful approach in the engineering geological practice for the determination of bearing capacity. In these soils the determination of bearing capacity can be evaluated with several formula that necessary require the estimation of the friction angle: this leads …

Mechanical Properties, Viscoelastic and Water Absorption Properties of Biocarbon-Reinforced Composites
Abstract: Biocarbon-reinforced polymer composites have emerged as a sustainable alternative to conventional composites, combining environmental benefits with promising material properties. This study explores the effect of varying biocarbon content (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% by weight) on the mechanical, viscoelastic, and water absorption properties of a polypropylene (PP) matrix. Tensile strength tests reveal that incorporating 10% biocarbon yields the highest strength at 35 MPa, attributed to enhanced interfacial bonding. However, at …

Fracture Analysis of Functionally Graded Material (FGM) Plates Using Extended Finite Element Method: A Review.
Abstract: Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs), have drawn a lot of interest in various engineering applications due to their superior mechanical properties and ability to withstand extreme conditions. Fracture analysis in FGMs focuses on understanding how cracks initiate and propagate within these complex materials. The stress distribution becomes irregular due to spatial property variations which produces different crack paths than what occurs in homogeneous materials. The examination of FGM plates under fracture …

Structural Optimization of FDM-Processed ASA Polymer Frames through Acetone Solvent Welding, Variable Infill Strategy, and Layer Orientation: Experimental Validation via Quadcopter Flight Testing
Abstract: Acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) is an amorphous terpolymer with superior UV resistance compared to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), as its acrylate rubber phase lacks photodegradation-prone carbon–carbon double bonds. This study proposes acetone solvent welding as a polymer joining method to produce monolithic structures from FDM-processed ASA components, addressing three processing challenges: achieving structural continuity through polymer chain interdiffusion at solvent-wetted interfaces, correcting thermal warping via post-print geometric correction during welding, …

Tailoring the Compressive Behavior of Tetrachiral Auxetic Structures Through FDM Process-Parameters
Abstract: This research evaluates how fused deposition modeling (FDM) fabrication process parameters affect the compressive behavior of tetrachiral auxetic structures created from Polylactic Acid (PLA). Auxetic materials have several useful properties, including reversible deformation and high-energy absorbing capabilities, which are beneficial to creating ultra-lightweight structural, protective, and shock-resistance designs. Among the available auxetic topologies, the tetrachiral configuration is particularly attractive for engineering use, because its rotation-dominated node–ligament deformation gives a negative …

Torsional Strengthening of RC Beam using Ferrocement Jacketing
Abstract: Due to the type of loading on the structure, it is generally known that there are four structural actions: axial force, shear, bending, and torsion. The reinforced concrete beams are said to be subjected to torsion, when the point of application of lateral loads does not coincides with shear center of the beam. These loads may be due to loading pattern or connection of beam. Torsional failure is typically seen …
