Enhancing Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Epoxy Composites with Silicon Carbide Additives
Abstract: This study explores the production and characterization of glass fiber-reinforced epoxy resin composites enhanced with silicon carbide (SiC) as a reinforcing filler. The primary objective is to evaluate the impact of SiC on the mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of the composites. Four different samples with varying SiC weight fractions (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) were prepared, keeping the glass fiber content constant. The composites were fabricated using a combination …

Development and Assessment of Mechanical Characteristics in Sisal-Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites
Abstract: In many different fields, including tensile strength, reduced thermal expansion, and an amazing strength-to-weight ratio, fiber-reinforced polymer composites are gradually replacing conventional materials. This work mostly addresses the development and evaluation of the mechanical characteristics of epoxy composites improved with glass fibers and sisal. Among the benefits are biodegradability, lower weight, and more specific strength. Sisal polymer composites are included under natural fiber composites. Including sisal strands into glass fiber-reinforced …

Mechanical Performance Evaluation of Brachyuran Shell Particle-Infused S-Glass Fibre Epoxy Polymer Composites
Abstract: Epoxy composites bio-filled with brachyuran crab shell powder and reinforced with S-glass fibres at different loadings (2%, 4%, and 6%) are tested for their mechanical properties in this work. Using modest amounts of filler significantly improved hardness, ultimate tensile strength, and flexural strength in the empirical data. The largest increase in hardness was 64.42% at 4% filler, up from 26.22% at 2%; however, there was a dramatic decrease to 13.11% …

Mechanical Characterization of Adhesive in Lap Joint Under Tensile Load
Abstract: The present work gives details of adhesive characterization in lap joints under quasi static tensile failure load. Rivets are major threat for an aircraft structure because of high stress concentration at lesser area ease to failure and also causes drag in aerodynamic perspective. Researchers are searching for a different method to avoid the stress concentrations in lesser area. The use of adhesives instead of rivets is most feasible solution for …

Experimental investigation on impact resistance and energy absorption of multicell thin walled glass fibre reinforced polymer composite
Abstract: The objective of this study is to explore the behaviour of different types GFRP cell structures under dynamic load testing. In this study we have designed, fabricated, tested and analyzed specimens of different configurations (Cylindrical structure – 1 cell, 2 cell and 4 cell) using Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). GFRP constituents are Glass fibre of 200 GSM with L-12 epoxy and K-6 hardener. Test specimens were manufactured by conventional …

Integrated DIPlib and OpenCV Framework for Precise Geometric Characterisation of Woven Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Composites
Abstract: The mechanical properties of woven fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites stem entirely from the geometrical regularity inherent in their reinforcement structure. Changes in the size of the unit cell, fibre tow separation, weave angle, and fibre tow spacing will have an immediate effect on the stiffness and shear modulus of the material. In this paper, a combined machine vision system that incorporates both the OpenCV and DIPlib libraries is proposed for …

Characterization of Glass Fiber/Epoxy Laminates Modified with MWCNT–Al₂O₃ Hybrid Nanofillers
Abstract: Enhancing the performance of fibre-reinforced polymer composites increasingly involves the integration of nanoscale additives that can improve strength, toughness, and overall durability. In the present investigation, woven E-glass/epoxy laminates were modified using a hybrid nanofiller system consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) nanoparticles. The two nanomaterials were combined in a 2:4 proportion and introduced into the epoxy matrix at total loadings of 1%, 3%, and 5% …

Experimental and Numerical Assessment of Flexural Shear Behavior of RC Beams Enhanced using Hybrid CFRP–GFRP U-Wrap System
Abstract: This study examines the Reinforced Concrete beams strengthened in Flexural-shear using a hybrid Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) system that combines carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) in a U-wrap configuration. Six beams totally were made and the results were tested under 4 point bending moment using LVDT, in which three beams were of control beams without strengthening and another three externally wrapped using hybrid CFRP-GFRP …

Abstract: Fiber-reinforced polymer composites have been identified to possess excellent properties that render them very suitable in the aerospace, automotive, marine and renewable energy sectors. However, for the industrially scalable vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process, optimization of mechanical properties of basalt epoxy composites must be achieved systematically, which means that the effect of the fibre volume fraction(VF) on the mechanical properties of the composite needs to be quantified for different …
