Aspects of Diamond-Like Carbon based MEMS and Microfluidic Devices
Abstract: In general, diamond-like carbon (DLC) is the hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) to be used in the fabrication of micro electromechanical systems (MEMS) and microfluidic devices. Mukhopadhyay as author has recently demonstrated the variation of surface wettability in polymer based microchannels by the use of DLC. Also, DLC can be used as an anti-stiction coating in different applications. In this review, different features of DLC are briefly highlighted. This educational short …

Surface-Driven Capillary Flow on Microchannel Surface Coated with Diamond like Carbon of Nano-scale Thickness towards the Applications in Statistical Features of Fluid Mechanics
Abstract: In this experimental work, polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is the chosen polymer as device material to fabricate the microfluidic devices. PMMA is optically transparent polymer which is a facility to record the microfluidic flow of any dyed working liquid inside the fabricated microchannels. Two individual microfluidic devices are fabricated by lithographic techniques. Dyed water is selected and prepared as working liquid. Leakage-free surface-driven capillary flow of dyed water is recorded corresponding to …

Recording of the Surface-Driven Microfluidic Flow of Aqueous Working Liquids in PMMA Microfluidic Devices
Abstract: In this work, the pristine polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microchannel surfaces are modified by the air dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma processing, nitrogen plasma treatment, Undoped diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, and Si-doped DLC coating, to produce the PMMA microfluidic devices having inner walls of different surface wettability. Dyed water and dyed aqueous ethanol (90% dyed water, 10% ethanol) are the selected two aqueous working liquids. The video recording of each surface-driven microfluidic …
