Probing India’s Failure to Produce Nobel Laureates in Science after CV Raman
Abstract: India’s track record is very poor, if we consider the number of Nobel Laureates produced by India since the inception of Nobel Prizes in 1901. Rabindra Nath Tagore was the first Indian recipient to receive this coveted Prize in 1913 in Literature. CV Raman was the second Indian to be awarded this prize in 1930 for his world famous discovery known as ‘Raman Effect’. After these two, some Indians have …

Rajinder Singh – A Physicist, Teacher and Historian of Science
Abstract: History of Indian Science is a fascinating subject. Rajinder Singh has written biographies of many prominent but lesser-known scientists of Calcutta School of Physics. He is considered as an authority on CV Raman whose life and work became the subject of his D.Sc. thesis in Germany. His monumental work includes how and why Mahatma Gandhi missed the Nobel Peace Prize. He also wrote about Indians who were nominated for Nobel …

Raman Spectroscopy for The Determination of Relative Crystallinity of Carbon Fibers
Abstract: Analogous to X-ray diffraction technique, the light scattering technique discovered by Sir CV Raman has great potential in quantifying the crystallinity of new materials, like the highly crystalline pitch based carbon fibers (NX90 and NX100). For comparison the Raman spectra of polyacrylonitrile based carbon fibers (T700SC) were also recorded. From the Raman spectral analysis, it was found that the pitch based carbon fibers exhibit far far higher degree of crystallinity …

Growth Mechanism Dependent Room Temperature Electrical Properties of Complex Spinel Oxide Nanostructures
Abstract: Here we present the investigation on growth mechanism and corresponding electrical properties of complex spinel zinc stannate (Zn2SnO4) nanostructures synthesized using VLS (vapour-liquid-solid) method in a vacuum operated thermal CVD setup. GAXRD, Raman and Room temperature resistivity, mobility and carrier concentration of variety of nanostructures of Zn2SnO4 have been analysed to understand the effect plausible growth mechanism dependent properties. The corresponding role of catalyst layer thickness during growth as well …

Tailoring The Electrochemical Interface of Graphene–Gd₂O₃ Nanocomposites for Advanced Energy Storage
Abstract: Graphene–Gd₂O₃ nanocomposites were synthesized by incorporating varying concentrations of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) into Gd₂O₃ using a straightforward room-temperature solution method. The composites were analyzed using various distinct characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Electrochemical measurements, particularly cyclic voltammetry (CV), demonstrated that the incorporation of graphene significantly enhanced the electrochemical performance …

Monitoring Safety and Compliance in Industrial Sector Using Computer Vision and Deep Learning
Abstract: The well being of a worker in the industrial sector is important and can be a life threatening, if fully not equipped with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). PPE grants the workers the safety from different life threatening situations like goggles protect from strong flash lighting generated by certain industrial equipment, helmet protect the head when heavy objects fall on the worker. However, many workers fail to properly equip their Personal …

Synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes using Laboratory Electric Bunsen Burner
Abstract: The synthesis of carbon nanotubes was carried out by CVD using electric Bunsen burner as the electrical source, at low temperature over cobalt nitrate supported on MgO using ethanol as the carbon source. The morphology, quality and degree of graphitization were analyzed by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. The TGA analysis with mild acid treatment revealed the burn off temperature of carbon nanotube to be at 392 to 695oC. The …
