Effect of different concentrations of mercuric iodide on the growth of Microcystis spp.
Abstract: Cyanobacteria are commonly called as blue green algae which are abundantly distributed in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem. They are procaryotic autotrophic organisms and have thallus structure. Such organisms are actively involved in the biological nitrogen fixation which can fix the atmospheric nitrogen and converts into ammonia compounds. Plants can utilize such converted components for their growth and metabolic activities. Since they are diazotrophs which is the suitable supplement to …

Microplastics in Terrestrial Ecosystems: Impacts on Soil Biodiversity, Plant Growth, and Nutrient Cycling
Abstract: Microplastics, defined as plastic particles smaller than 5 mm, have emerged as a widespread environmental contaminant in terrestrial ecosystems. Although their impacts in aquatic environments have received considerable attention, the occurrence and ecological consequences of microplastics in soil ecosystems are increasingly recognized as an important environmental concern. Agricultural practices, plastic mulching, sewage sludge application, wastewater irrigation, compost, atmospheric deposition, and the fragmentation of larger plastic materials are major pathways through …

Climate Change and the Hydrologic Cycle: Emerging Patterns, Process Alterations, and Implications for Sustainable Water Resources Management
Abstract: Climate change is profoundly altering the global hydrologic cycle, affecting the movement, storage, and quality of water across atmospheric, terrestrial, and aquatic systems. Rising global temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, increasing atmospheric evaporative demand, and intensifying hydroclimatic extremes are reshaping key hydrological processes, including evapotranspiration, soil moisture dynamics, runoff generation, streamflow regimes, groundwater recharge, and water quality. This review synthesizes recent advances in understanding the impacts of climate change on the …

Treatment of Dye Waste using Phytoremediation
Abstract: Textile industries are rapidly developing nowadays. There are many dyeing industries situated at Tirupur. The wastewater from these industries were directly discharged into Noyyal river without any treatment, hence the aquatic eco-system was affected. This water is rich in heavy metals used for coloring purpose. This increases the toxicity of river water. By using the process of phytoremediation, the concentration of toxicity of heavy metals is reduced. Phytoremediation is done …

Effect of Nitrite on Oxygen Consumption and Ammonia Excretion of the Fresh Water Crab Paratelphusa jacquemontii (Rathbun)
Abstract: In aquatic ecosystem, nitrite concentrations are elevated by pollution with nitrogenous wastes and imbalances in bacterial nitrification and denitrification processes. Nitrite is transformed by nitrification to nitrate under aerobic condition. The effects of nitrite on physiology were investigated in the fresh water crab, Paratelphusa jacquemontii (carapace length 4–5 cm and weight 50–70 g) for 96 h. The crabs were exposed to sublethal concentration (1/10th and 1/20th of 96 h LC50) …
