Graphene-Derived Reinforced Polymer Composites for Self-Healing and Durability Enhancement in Concrete Structures
Abstract: This study presents a matrix-centric polymer-composite repair binder: an epoxy–polyamide network reinforced with graphene derivatives (GO/rGO, 0.1–1.0 wt%). The polymer drives function via segmental mobility that closes microcracks, while 2D-filler topology densifies the interphase, improves load transfer, and enforces tortuous moisture pathways. Adhesion was high: pull-off (ASTM D4541) reached 13.5 MPa at 2.0 mm displacement; slant-shear (ASTM C882) reached 12.1 MPa at 2.8 mm, with greater deformation capacity (zero stress …

Fracture Analysis of Laminated composite plates using Extended Finite Element Method: A Review
Abstract: Laminated composite plates are used in aerospace, automotive, and marine industries. They feature great durability against fatigue, a high strength-to-weight ratio, and mechanical attributes that may be altered. However, they are prone to fracture and delamination under complex loading, requiring accurate fracture analysis for structural integrity. Traditional finite element methods (FEM) need extensive mesh refinement for modelling crack propagation which increases the computational costs. The Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) …

Application of flux cored arc welding (fcaw) without pre-heating for heavy structures in ship building fabrication & construction of heavy offshore structural steels
Abstract: In fusion welding processes, the reason often given to explain the need for preheating, controlling the inter pass temperature (in multi-pass welds), and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is to reduce the risk of residual stresses and it can be removed by heating weldment in the heat affected zone (HAZ). Cold cracking is a hydrogen embrittlement phenomenon, often referred to as hydrogen induced cracking or HAZ cracking. During the construction and …

Finite Element Analysis and Validation of Axial Capacity of RC Columns Made of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC)
Abstract: Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) possesses many excellent dynamic performances such as; high resistance to explosion and penetration. It has little effect on pre-cracking behavior in uniaxial compression, but substantially enhances its post cracking response. This response leads to a greatly improved ductility and toughness. Steel fibers in SFRC are capable of preventing crack propagation as well as brittle failure of columns under uniaxial compression. To this end, four reinforced …

Correlating the Damage Behaviour of Polymer Composites with the Potential Energy of the Impactor
Abstract: Design of structures using composites requires comprehensive evaluation and characterization of mechanical properties in both undamaged and damaged state. Composite laminates undergo combinations of mechanical loading resulting into microdamage accumulation in the plies. The first mode of damage is usually intralaminar cracking with the crack plane transverse to the middle plane of the laminate, spanning the whole width of the laminate. The density of cracks in a ply depends on …

Influence of Corrosion on Flexural Strength of Concrete
Abstract: The large-scale infrastructure uses reinforcement concrete. It has been believed that protection to steel reinforcement by concrete is permanent. The influence of atmospheric corrosion of steel and its performance in concrete has been subject to controversy in the construction industry. Service life of reinforced concrete structure can be significantly reduced when the corrosion of reinforcing steel is initiated; the product of corrosion expands and occupies greater volume than original volume …
