Mechanical Characterization of Untreated Banana Fiber Reinforced PLA Bio-Composites Manufactured by 3D Printing
Abstract: This study investigates the development and mechanical characterization of fused deposition modeling (FDM) filaments utilizing polylactic acid (PLA) reinforced with untreated banana fibers (BF). To address the brittleness of pure PLA and valorize agricultural waste, composite filaments with fiber loadings of 0, 1, 3, and 5 wt.% were fabricated using a single-screw extruder. A Taguchi L16 orthogonal array was employed to optimize printing parameters, including fiber percentage, raster angle, infill …

To explore the effect of polyethylene glycol additive on mechanical and gas permeation properties of polyvinyl alcohol membranes
Abstract: Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) membranes were prepared by solution casting and blended with Polyethylene glycol (PEG) in de-ionized water which led to the formation of porous and flexible membranes. Extensive experimentation were performed, in order to find out that at what composition of PEG pores will be generated in the PVA membranes. The PVA polymer is a hard and crystalline thermoplastic so high concentrations of PEG were used, i.e. 40 wt%, …

Durability of Bond Strength between Titanium and two PMMAs
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the durability of the bond strength between titanium and PMMA denture base resins. Two commercial PMMA denture base resins and three bonding systems were used in the present study. A total of 224 rod shaped specimens of Grade 2 titanium alloy were divided into 16 groups of 14 each. Half of the titanium rods were treated with 50 µm alumina air abrasion …

Thermal Stability of Compatibilised Natural Rubber/ Chitosan Blends
Abstract: The thermal degradation behavior of Natural Rubber /Chitosan (NR/CS) blends compatibilised with maleic anhydride (MA) was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The TGA shows that the MA modified blends are more stable than the pure blends. MA acts as a reactive compatibiliser in NR/CS blends. MA grafted NR chain is highly reactive towards the functional group on the chitosan moiety, and when pressing at elevated temperature interaction develops between the …

LCMS/MS Analysis of the Ethylacetate Extract of Securidaca longipedunculata Fresen (Polygalaceae) Stem Bark
Abstract: The present study aimed to identify some of the phytoconstituents of a fraction (fraction DDK-4) obtained from the column chromatography of the ethylacetate extract of Securidaca longipedunculata Fresen (Polygalaceae). Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS/MS) analysis of fraction DDK-4 was conducted on a Waters Synapt G2 quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer (Milford, MA, USA) using positive mode of ionization. The results showed that 1,7-dihydroxy-2,8-dimethoxy xanthone, 3-(1,3-benzodi-oxol-5-yl-4-morpholinyl)-3-(2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-propanone, 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methyl-3-(2’,4’-dihydroxybenzyl)-chroman-4-one, trans-O-methyl-grandmarin, dioctylamine, rhodioloside, punicic acid, echimidine, …
