Characterization and Antimicrobial Investigations of Isomeric Pr(III) Juglonates
Abstract: Hydroxy napthoquinone derivatives constitute an interesting group of ligands which is recognized as ‘Juglones’. Isomeric Lawsone-Juglone and Phthiocol-Plumbagin are the most important members of the Juglone series and are biologically active, having natural origin. They form isomeric pairs of ligands resulting into isomeric pairs of metal chelates. The isomerism is occurring due to formation of either five or six membered rings in the metal chelates. In the present work Prasodymium …

Polymer Waste-Derived Activated Carbon from PET for High-Efficiency Supercapacitor Electrodes
Abstract: The exponential increase in plastic waste, particularly Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)—a polymer characterized by its repeating aromatic terephthalate units and ester linkages—has escalated into a global environmental crisis. This study details a low-cost synthesis of porous carbon materials derived from waste PET via pyrolysis followed by chemical activation with calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). During pyrolysis, the PET polymer chains undergo thermal degradation, where the aromatic rings in the backbone serve as precursors …

AI-Driven Inverse Design of Functionally Graded Bio-Nanocomposites for Sustainable High-Barrier Packaging
Abstract: Multilayer plastic packaging realizes high barrier performance through laminated heterogeneous structures, but the heterogeneous structure has severe end-of-life challenges caused by the interfacial incompatibility of materials and the poor recyclability. This study proposes the inverse design of functionally graded PLA-nanoclay composite films by reinforcement learning as a monolithic alternative to traditional multilayer systems. Twin-screw extrusion is designed as a continuous control Markov decision process, and proximal policy optimization (PPO) is …

Predicting Dielectric Constants of Polymers Using Molecular Structural Descriptors and Explainable Machine Learning: A Data-Driven Approach
Abstract: Accurate prediction of dielectric constants in polymeric materials is fundamental to the rational design of advanced electronic components, energy storage capacitors, flexible substrates, and high-frequency communication circuits. Conventional approaches to identifying suitable polymer dielectrics rely on extensive experimental synthesis and characterisation, which are both time-consuming and resource-intensive. In this work, an explainable machine learning framework is developed to predict the dielectric constant of polymers directly from molecular structural descriptors derived …
