Fungal-derived Nutraceuticals & Bioactive Compounds with Physiotherapeutic and Health- promoting Properties: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: Fungal-derived nutraceuticals represent a rapidly expanding field in biomedical research, offering a rich source of bioactive compounds with diverse therapeutic applications. This comprehensive review examines the physiotherapeutic and health-promoting properties of fungal metabolites, including polysaccharides, terpenes, proteins, peptides, alkaloids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Fungi produce over 9,000 bioactive compounds from approximately 22,500 microbial metabolites, with less than 5% of the fungal kingdom explored [1] . The major bioactive constituents …

SIBR/Aloe barbadenis Mill.: A Review on Medicinal Utility from the Perspective of Unani Medicine
Abstract: Aloe barbadensis Mill., known as Sibr in Unani medicine, is a time-honored medicinal plant belonging to the family Liliaceae. Revered across cultures and healing systems, it has been extensively described in Unani literature under various names such as Elwa, Musabbar, and Ghikwar. This review aims to comprehensively explore the medicinal utility of Sibr from an Unani perspective while integrating evidence from modern pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, and pharmacology. Traditionally, the dried juice …

Preparation and Characterization of Biopolymeric Film for Food Preservation and Packaging: A Review
Abstract: Petroleum-based polymers have been widely used for the production of various products for a long period due to their versatility and durability. However, the increasing demand of these petroleum-based plastic generates tremendous non-degradable plastic waste, leading to significant environmental concerns. Improper disposal practices lead to pollution, posing serious threats to the ecosystem and human health. In response to these challenges, biopolymers have emerged as a promising alternative source that have …

The Mycobiome Frontier – Pre & Post 2020 Status: Integrating Fungal Bioactive Compounds, Probiotics, and Antimicrobial Peptides in Modern Therapeutics and Biotechnology.
Abstract: The fungal kingdom represents an indispensable resource in modern therapeutics and biotechnology, offering a diverse array of bioactive compounds, probiotics, and antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). Functional fungal polysaccharides (FFPs), such as beta-glucans, chitin, and mannans, are centrally involved in modulating the human gut microbiota, providing novel therapeutic avenues for chronic conditions including diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer. These compounds act as prebiotics, nourishing beneficial bacteria and enhancing metabolic parameters such as …

Application of Natural and Synthetic Polymer-Based Disintegrants in the Design of Fast Dissolving Cefuroxime Axetil Tablet Composites
Abstract: The current paper examines how natural and synthetic polymer-based disintegrants can be used to design fast-soluble types of tablet composites. A model drug was chosen and tablets were prepared by the direct compression method using different polymeric excipients, such as guar gum, locust bean gum, sodium starch glycolate (SSG) and cross povidone. Eight formulations were prepared and tested on the basis of critical material and performance characteristics including thickness, hardness, …

Hydrolysis-Driven Optimization of Hydroxypropyl Maize Starch for Improved Micro-Pellet Binding and Quick Solubility of Spirulina-Based Micro-Pellets
Abstract: Acid hydrolysis is a well-established approach for modifying the physicochemical properties of polysaccharides & macromolecules including hydroxypropyl Maize starch (HPMS). In this study, the effect of varying concentrations of hydrochloric acid on the partial hydrolytic degradation of HPMS (Lycoat RS-780) was investigated at 85°C for 4 h, yielding polymers of different molecular weights. The Acid-mediated degradation effects on polymer characteristics were systematically assessed using capillary viscometry and gel permeation chromatography …

Biopolymer Degradation and Structure–Property Relationships in Ageing: A Polymer Science Perspective
Abstract: Ageing, as viewed from the polymer sciences perspective, is perceived as the gradual modification of the structure-property-function interrelationship of biopolymers such as proteins, polysaccharides, nucleic acids and their molecular aggregates. Such changes include structural organization, mechanical behavior, physicochemical stability and functional effectiveness. Ageing is an inevitable multifactorial polymeric process. Due to the growing aging population globally, more age-associated complications emerge, which are correlated with the molecular degeneration of biopolymeric complexes. …
