Characterization studies on surface activation of phosphor bronze wire mesh via different chemical means for water distillation applications
Abstract: Surface activation of phosphor bronze structured packing modules is an important step in the manufacturing of high efficiency water distillation columns as it ensures excellent mass transfer behaviour and overall process intensification. These packed columns are used in the nuclear industry for heavy water production and purification. Activation is generally achieved through a treatment involving aqueous NaOH solution with bubbling of oxygen gas through it. This leads to the development …

Synthesis and Characterization of Emulsion Paint Binder from a Copolymer Composite of Dimethylol Urea/Polystyrene
Abstract: AbstractIn our desire to reduce formaldehyde emission from urea formaldehyde resin (UF), dimethylol urea (DMU) was synthesized. Liquid polystyrene (PS) obtained from waste PS material was copolymerized by blending with the DMU at varying concentrations (10–70%). Infrared spectra infers a reactive blending between DMU and PS, while some physical property tests carried out reveals reduction in moisture uptake, rigidity and further reduction in formaldehyde emission among the favorable changes in …

Size Dependent Fluorescence Decay Dynamics of MoS2 Nanoflakes
Abstract: This paper reports a profound method to prepare MoS2, and the effect of ultraviolet light irradiation on its emission characteristics. The exfoliation of molybdenum di-sulfide (MoS2) in a liquid phase has been achieved successfully via probe sonication for different time intervals followed by centrifugation method. Ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectra of the obtained MoS2 dispersions at different exfoliation time indicate that the concentration of MoS2 nanosheets as well as MoS2 quantum dots …

PVT Analysis: Validity Checks and EOS Turning Techniques for Retrograde Condensate Reservoirs
Abstract: PVT analysis is pertinent to field-wide development and optimization. This is because we need to know the over-all behavior of the fluid from reservoir through production and process facilities, down to the refinery. Its emergence as a separate discipline has been supported by the development of modern computer software that utilize EOS models for simulating experiments and representing fluid phase behaviours. PVT simulations are carried out to determine operating conditions …

Performance of Equation-of-State for Hydrocarbon Dew Point Control in Gas Flow-line in a Nigerian Field
Abstract: Associated gas in a flow-line in a Nigerian field was suspected to be accountable for unaccounted-for gas in the flow-station. Gas molecular compositions of Low Pressure suction gas and Injection Discharge gas for operating conditions of pressure and temperature from the field were analysed by the use of Soave-Redlich Kwong and Peng-Robinson Equations of State with PVTp thermodynamic software. The phase envelope predicted the Hydrocarbon dew point(s) observable from the …

A New Description of Multi-phase Flow Behavior at Boundary Layers of Low-permeability Porous Media
Abstract: At present, the recovery factor of low permeability oilfield in China is only about 20%, which is enormously lower than the recovery factor index of 60% by using water-chemical flooding in medium and high permeability layer. There are a lot of causes that resulted in low recovery factor, among them that the complex pore structure, tiny throat, large pore throat ratio and non-Darcy flow in low-permeability oil layer are the …

Development of Intermittent Gas Lift Optimum Time Module Using Automatic Pneumatic System
Abstract: Artificial lift technique is used to bring hydrocarbons to the surface when they cannot come to the surface on their own. Gas lift is an artificial lift technique which is classified into continuous and intermittent gas lifts. Continuous gas lift is used when the hydrocarbon fills into the wellbore continuously but is not able to come to the surface while intermittent gas lift is used when the fluid flow into …

Water/Oil Cresting Optimization in Horizontal Wells: Experimental Study
Abstract: In recent years, the application of horizontal wells has been predominant and successful in minimizing cresting scenarios due to significant reservoir exposure of its laterals. Cresting is a natural phenomenon known to occur when an imbalance of viscous and gravitational forces exists in a reservoir. This study experimentally investigates the effect of varying the inclined section of the horizontal well using a simple, practical and inexpensive cresting optimization technique. The …

Estimation of Drilling Waste Generation for Effective Waste Management
Abstract: Drilling operations remains the second generator of oil and gas waste after production activities. They are prominent among the primary sources of exploration and production waste. Wastes from drill cuttings and mud, and obnoxious gas emissions are the major contributors of these drilling wastes. These have direct and indirect impact on both humans and the environment. Poor estimation of waste may lead to solid and or liquid loadings at the …

Evidence of PDMS-based foam control agent mechanism on crude oil foams
Abstract: Crude oil foam is a frequent problem faced in oil production operations that can cause the reduction of the separator efficiency, separator overflow, carry out of liquid by the gas stream, and other serious problems. Among the techniques used to attenuate foams in crude production, the injection of chemical additives is still considered one of the most efficient. However, the effectiveness of a foam control agent (FCA) is limited to …
