Mechanical Performance Assessment of Hybrid FRP Laminates with Carbon Fiber Core Using Experimental and Numerical Approaches
Abstract: The high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance and design flexibility of Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have attracted considerable attention in aerospace, automotive and structural applications. This work presents an experimental and finite element study on the tensile and flexural behavior of epoxy-based hybrid FRP laminates. Five laminate configurations were manufactured, including a unidirectional carbon fiber laminate and four hybrid laminates, Kevlar–Carbon–Kevlar (K/C/K), Glass–Carbon–Glass (G/C/G), Kevlar–Carbon–Glass (K/C/G), and Glass–Carbon–Kevlar (G/C/K). For all …

Assessment of the Reinforced Slope Stability Under Earthquake Loading
Abstract: Failure of the soil slopes by dynamic excitation is one of the most vital geotechnical earthquake hazards which may lead to serious destruction to the bridge abutments, dams, embankment, and structures resting on the slope. Moreover, due to deficient space available for the construction of slopes in urban areas, high and steep slope is constructed by geotextile reinforcement slopes. In this study, numerical modelling is made to study the behaviour …

Investigation on Mechanical Properties of Bamboo-Plastic Composites by Alkali Treatment and Illustration via Scanning Electron Microscopy
Abstract: The morphological properties, tensile and flexural strength of composite materials made of bamboo fibres and plastic were investigated. Bamboo-plastic composites (BPCs) were made from bamboo fibres, plastic, and urea formaldehyde (UF) resin to evaluate the effects on mechanical properties. Two different types of plastics, namely polypropylene (PP) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) were used to make the composite fabrication. The bamboo fibres were extracted after soaking them in a sodium hydroxide …

A Comparative Study of Neem Oil and Mahogany Oil as Corrosion Inhibitors for Mild Steel Exposed to Hydrochloric Acid
Abstract: Corrosion is essentially an oxidation process, wherein the oxidizing agent itself undergoes reduction due to the influence of corrosion agents like salt, air, or moisture. Metals and their alloys naturally tend to react spontaneously with their surroundings, leading to a detrimental impact on their mechanical and physical properties. This project aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of two different oils, namely neem oil and mahogany oil, as agents to prevent acid …
