Effect of Span, Load Intensity, and Beam Geometry on Stress and Deflection Behavior of RCC Beams
Abstract: This study investigates the influence of variations in beam geometry, span, load intensity, and permissible stresses on the structural behavior of reinforced concrete beams. Using classical bending and shear stress formulations, the effects of a 20% increase in key parameters were analytically evaluated. Results indicate that a 20% increase in beam span leads to a proportional 20% increase in beam depth, whereas a 20% increase in beam width or permissible …

Soil Around the Pier Below the Bed Level of River
Abstract: This study presents the evaluation of vertical and lateral loads acting on a bridge pier–pedestal system subjected to self-weight and vehicular loading. The pier, having a height of 25 m, length of 20 m, and thickness of 1 m, was found to carry a self-weight of 1200 t. When combined with a vehicular load of 2000 t, the total vertical load on the pier becomes 3200 t. Considering lateral force …

Foundation of Building
Abstract: Recent trends in civil engineering underscore the importance of designing foundations that can withstand varying load conditions and environmental challenges. Selecting the appropriate foundation depth is critical for stability, particularly under intense loads. In regions with high rainfall, understanding maximum precipitation levels and water infiltration is vital. Water penetration into the soil can significantly reduce its load-bearing capacity, with saturation potentially lowering it by up to 50%. Foundations must also …

Safety of Foundation of Building
Abstract: The design of a building's foundation requires careful consideration of the load intensity applied from the structure above. To ensure stability and safety, the foundation depth must be sufficient to support the loads effectively. For residential buildings, where the loads are relatively lower, a foundation base size of 2.5 × 2.5 meters or 3 × 3 meters is typically adequate. In contrast, for structures with significantly higher loads, such as …

Time and Frequency Response of Non-uniform Overhead Lines Under Corona
Abstract: This study presents an efficient and direct technique for determining both the time and frequency responses of non-uniform overhead power transmission lines operating under corona conditions. The assumed-line's non-uniformity is due to the conductors’ sag. Expressions will be presented for the location-dependent line surge impedance and the unevenly distributed lines’ electrical parameters. The analysis starts with solving the relevant system of differential and algebraic equations, subject to the boundary conditions. …

Analysis of the Impact of Seabed Earthquakes on Coastal Structures and Foundation Design
Abstract: Earthquakes in the seabed occur with varying magnitudes. Seabed earthquakes cause a rapid rise in water levels, which can lead to flooding and structural damage. Therefore, when designing buildings near the seashore, it is essential to account for the additional load on columns due to water thrust. Earthquakes occurring at the seabed generate intense ground acceleration of varying magnitudes, significantly affecting water levels and inducing destructive flooding along coastal regions. …

Evaluation of T-stress using FEM in an Unsymmetrical Cracks Emanating from a Hole Placed Centrally in a Thin Plate
Abstract: Studying the impact of higher order terms of the William’s series expansion on fracture mechanics problems has received more attention in recent years. Research has demonstrated that the constant term T-stress has a significant impact on the stress and strain fields around the crack tip. In response to mixed mode (I/II) loading, a number of fracture criteria had been developed to characterize failure in linear elastic bodies. When evaluating the …

Comparative Analysis of Vertical Geometric Irregular Buildings by Fragility Curve Using Pushover Analysis
Abstract: The present work deals with the analysis of vertical geometric irregular structures, such as step buildings and setback buildings, which exhibit stiffness irregularity at different locations. These structures are analyzed using pushover analysis, a nonlinear static analysis method that provides insight into the performance of buildings under seismic loading by incrementally applying lateral forces until a target displacement is reached or the structure collapses. Stiffness irregularities in buildings can significantly …
