Abstract

Plants have always attracted the scientist’s world over as potential agents for various therapeutic activities and they are constantly explored to find out novel therapeutic components. In this regard, the current review summarizes the studies done on certain selected plants to look for their antibacterial properties. The plants selected are Guava (Psidium guajava), Jambolan (Syzygium cumini), Ber (Zizyphus mauritiana), and Lakshmi taru (Simarouba glauca) leaves. Over the years, the antibacterial properties of methanolic, ethanolic, ethyl acetate, chloroform, and aqueous extracts from these plants have been extensively investigated by numerous scientists, consistently yielding positive outcomes regarding their antimicrobial effects. These plants contain a rich array of phytochemical constituents, including tannins, phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and terpenoids. These compounds contribute to the plants' remarkable antimicrobial potential, further supporting their therapeutic value in combating bacterial infections.
