Abstract

Silver nanomaterials have been extensively practiced as an antimicrobial agent in water treatment, burnt treatment, wound dressings, etc. But the use of nanosilver as a decontaminant in plant tissue system has not yet been a popular practice in the field of agronomy. However, practically there are scanty or no reports on the use of nanosilver as a decontaminant in plant tissue culture methods. In the present work, different types of natural polyamine-capped silver nanoparticles were used (at their different individual optimum concentrations) as a decontaminating agent to maintain the aseptic seed culture of the Cicer arietinum or chickpea. The seeds treated with three types of capped nanosilver showed remarkable results in decontamination potentiality of the nanosilver along with the increase in  growth rate of the plants from its explants (seeds) avoiding phytotoxicity of harmful tissue culture antibiotics.
