Abstract

Sodium potassium niobate (Na0.5K0.5 NbO3 ) ceramic was prepared through conventional solid state reaction  using AR grade NaNO3, KNO3 and Nb2O5 in stochiometric ratio. Poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer - sodium potassium niobate composite films were prepared by solution casting method by changing the blend ratio of PVA / Na0.5K0.5NbO3. The prepared samples in the form of films were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction. The XRD studies revealed the presence of both ceramic and polymer phases in prepared polymer ceramic composites. The calcination temperatures of  sodium  potassium niobate powder was found to have an effect on the phase formation of polymer  ceramic composite. SEM studies on composite films revealed ceramic crystallites are well distributed in polymer matrix and the porosity is almost negligible. Dielectric studies showed a decrease of relative permittivity (εr) and dielectric loss (tanδ) in the composites with frequency at room temperature .
