Abstract

AbstractIndian alumina refineries produce over 6 million tonnes of alumina generating about 9 million tonnes of bauxite residue commonly (known as red mud) per annum, typically containing 50–60% Fe2O3, 15–20% Al2O3 and 3–5% SiO2, TiO2 and Na2O. Efforts have been made to synthesize nano-particles (Fe/Al/Ti) and nano-composites (Al-Fe-Ti/Al-Fe/Al-Ti) using red mud for chemical precipitation and mechanical milling. XRF was used to check the chemical composition of red mud processed at each stage. The microstructural and phase transformations from bulk to nano-stage at different temperatures were studied by SEM that helped in identifying the formation of nano-particles and nano-composites.Keywords: Aluminium industrial waste, Red mud, Autogenous dissolution, Nanoparticle, Nano-compositeCite this ArticlePriyanka Nayar.
