  Abstract: AbstractIndian alumina refineries produce over 6 million tonnes of alumina generating about 9 million tonnes of bauxite residue commonly (known as red mud) per annum, typically containing 50–60% Fe2O3, 15–20% Al2O3 and 3–5% SiO2, TiO2 and Na2O.
