An Appraisal on Concept of Ama with Special Reference to Xenobiotics
Abstract: Concept of ama is a unique entity in Ayurveda. The term ama denotes several meanings such as unprocessed food, partially digested food, the food which needs further transformation etc. It is the first stage of vranashotha and has main role in vyadhi utpatthi hence vyadhi also carries synonym as amaya. Impaired agni is the prime cause for ama utpatthi and it has the capacity to vitiate dosha, thereby disturbing the …

Role of Carboxylesterases in Xenobiotic Metabolism and Detoxification: Insights for Cheminformatics Approaches
Abstract: Xenobiotics, which include a wide range of environmental pollutants, food additives, drugs, and carcinogens, are foreign chemical entities that enter the human body and may accumulate, leading to toxic effects. Phase I and phase II metabolic responses are among the detoxification procedures that are necessary to lessen these negative consequences. This review highlights the pivotal role of carboxylesterases (CES), enzymes involved in the hydrolysis of ester, amide, and thioester bonds …

Nutrient–Xenobiotic Crosstalk in Dairy Cattle: Implications for Metabolism, Immunity, Health, and Productivity in Resilient Dairy Development
Abstract: Dairy cattle are routinely exposed to a wide range of xenobiotics, including mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticides, residues from veterinary drugs, and plant secondary metabolites, through feed, water, and environmental sources. These xenobiotics, being foreign to biological systems, can interfere with the absorption, metabolism, and utilization of essential nutrients, while also compromising immune function, organ health, and overall physiological performance. Chronic or subclinical exposure can reduce feed efficiency, disrupt energy and …

Drug-Induced Liver Injury: Hepatotoxicity and Treatment - A Literature Review
Abstract: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a major clinical and regulatory challenge, posing risks to patient safety and drug development worldwide. As the primary organ responsible for xenobiotic metabolism, the liver is particularly susceptible to toxic injury from prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and dietary supplements. Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) accounts for a substantial proportion of acute liver failure cases and remains a leading cause of post-marketing drug withdrawal. Its …

Assessment of Hepatic Damage in Labeo rohita (Hamilton, 1822) Exposed to Azo dye C. I. Direct Green 6
Abstract: Textile industries are one of the major backbones of Indian economy. They are the major reason for contamination of water bodies and their toxicity to ecosystem is an alarming environmental issue. The present study was designed to evaluate the hepatotoxic effects of C.I. Direct Green 6 (DG 6), a commercially used textile azo dye on Labeo rohita fingerlings. For this, L. rohita fingerlings were exposed to three sublethal concentrations (2.5, …

White-Rot Fungi-Based Bioprocessing for Circular Bioeconomy & Valorization of Lignocellulosic Waste
Abstract: The escalating global demand for sustainable resource management and the imperative to reduce dependence on fossil-based products have positioned the circular bioeconomy as a transformative paradigm for the 21st century. Lignocellulosic biomass, generated abundantly as agricultural and forestry residues, constitutes one of the most underexploited renewable carbon sources on Earth, yet its recalcitrant structure, interlinking cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, has long impeded its efficient valorization. White-rot fungi (WRF), predominantly belonging …
