Soil Around the Pier Below the Bed Level of River
Abstract: This study presents the evaluation of vertical and lateral loads acting on a bridge pier–pedestal system subjected to self-weight and vehicular loading. The pier, having a height of 25 m, length of 20 m, and thickness of 1 m, was found to carry a self-weight of 1200 t. When combined with a vehicular load of 2000 t, the total vertical load on the pier becomes 3200 t. Considering lateral force …

Detecting the Failure Stages in Asphalt Concrete Through the Fatigue Life
Abstract: The signs of failure initiation in asphalt concrete through its service life may appear as cracking, rutting, or other types of distress after practicing dynamic stresses from vehicular loading. This work is concerned with detecting the failure initiation in asphalt concrete in the laboratory, and the role of binder content and constant strain level through a comprehensive testing program. Asphalt concrete mixtures were formulated with the optimal binder content, as …

Design, Mathematical Modeling, and Dynamic Optimization of a Speed Breaker-Based Vehicular Kinetic Energy Harvester
Abstract: Decentralized energy harvesting methods are becoming more popular due to rapid urbanization and the rising need for sustainable infrastructure. The road-embedded vehicle kinetic energy harvester (VKEH) design, mathematical modelling, and experimental validation are presented in this work. This paper presents the structural engineering, continuum mathematical modeling, and experimental validation of an optimized road-embedded vehicular kinetic energy harvester (VKEH). The mechanism utilizes a spring- loaded, low-friction rack-and-pinion transmission coupled with a …

Modeling Deformation Mechanisms of Horseshoe Tunnel Excavation In Layered Ground Using Flac 3D
Abstract: In the modern era of civilization, the transportation sector plays a pivotal role in a nation's development. Efficient transportation networks are essential for economic progress, and tunnels are particularly valuable in this regard, as they help reduce travel time and fuel consumption. With growing interest in underground infrastructure, researchers are increasingly focusing on tunnel-related studies. This paper examines the deformational behavior of a horseshoe-shaped tunnel constructed in layered soil, subjected …

Soil Stabilized Road
Abstract: This research examines the suitability of soil-stabilized roadways for light vehicular movement, offering an economical and practical alternative for areas with limited infrastructure development. Stabilizing soil involves improving its engineering properties by incorporating additives such as cement, lime, or other binding materials. Through stabilization, the treated soil can achieve a compressive strength of approximately 5 N/mm², or 500 tonnes per square meter (t/m²), which is sufficient to support loads imposed …

Development of an Anti-Slip Mechanism for Enhanced Seat Belt Safety
Abstract: A seat belt on the other hand is a safety feature that is an integral part of any vehicle that has the sole responsibility of holding passengers in case of any abrupt deceleration. However, it is important to note the fact that normal seat belts tend to slide off during the times of serious accidents and this can compromise the safety of the passengers. Present work is aimed at design …
