The Influence of The Oxide Layer on The Stress Corrosion Cracking Initiation in The Case of Incoloy 800 in The Alkaline Environment
Abstract: Oxidized and non-oxidized C-rings cuts from Incoloy 800 tubes were tested with the purpose to study the influence of the oxide layer in the first step of the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) mechanism. A mechanical pre-crack of 100mm depth was executed on the external side of the C-rings in order to create some stress concentrations. The oxidized C-rings were obtained by autoclaving for 20 days in demineralised water adjusted with …

Corrosion inhibitors for 7000 aluminum alloys
Abstract: Wrought aluminium-zinc-magnesium copper (AA7000) series alloys have commonly used in aerospace industry and super-jet boats industry due to their high strength-to-weight ratio, toughness and resistance to fatigue. Variation in medium of exposure varies fatigue crack growth rates in these alloys. Stress corrosion crack is resisted by fine precipitates in alloys. Organic corrosion inhibitors are supposed to be mandatory from environmental legislation. Radioactive pitting corrosion has inhibited by conversion coatings.

A Review on Metal Inert Gas Welding of Dissimilar Steels
Abstract: Joining of dissimilar metals has found its use extensively in power generation, electronic, nuclear reactors, petrochemical and chemical industries due to environmental concerns, energy saving, high performance, cost saving and so on. However efficient welding of dissimilar metals has posed a major challenge due to difference in thermal, mechanical and chemical properties of the materials to be joined under a common welding condition. This causes a steep gradient of the …

Nonlinear Three Dimensional Dynamic Analysis of Titanium Drilling Riser
Abstract: Titanium alloys are selected for a high-pressure drilling riser’s application due to its high specific strength, corrosion resistance, and favorable elastic properties. The qualification of this titanium alloy requires assessing its resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion cracking due to seawater with/without cathodic protection, evaluating its dynamic response under long crested random sea. The response analysis is based on a simulation technique which duly considers the various nonlinear effects …

Weldability of Ferritic Stainless Steel
Abstract: The ferritic stainless steels are generally considered less weldable than austenitic stainless steels. In case of welding of first-generation ferritic stainless steels, rapid grain growth of ferrite takes place in both the fusion zone and heat-affected zone. These coarse grains have very low ductility and toughness. Excessive grain growth can be avoided by using lower welding heat input and or certain types of additives. They are lower in cost and …

Self Healing Material: An Introduction
Abstract: Self-healing materials have emerged as a transformative innovation for sustainable infrastructure and advanced applications such as wearable electronics and smart transportation systems. These materials possess the intrinsic ability to repair damage autonomously or with minimal external intervention, thereby extending service life and reducing maintenance costs. Inspired by biological systems, self-healing mechanisms are broadly classified into extrinsic approaches, such as microcapsule and vascular networks based healing, and intrinsic mechanisms involving reversible …

A Technical Review on cause of corrosion on carbon steel
Abstract: Piping is used in power plants, petrochemical plants and refineries to convey fluids to and from their place of usage and forms an essential part of the operation of the plant. It is advantageous for the student at Fourth Class level to understand the differences between piping requirements for the various fluids concerned, the materials best to be used, commercial pipe sizes, methods of connection and fittings. The challenging environment …

Experimental Exploration of Crack and Damage Dynamics of Hybrid FRP Nano Composites
Abstract: Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have become essential materials in modern engineering structures because of their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and adaptability in design. Among different fracture modes, Mode I interlaminar fracture where cracks propagate under tensile opening stresses is one of the most critical forms of damage in layered composites. Since delamination occurs within the matrix-rich regions between plies, improving the matrix properties plays a key role in enhancing …

Comparative Study on Fatigue Analysis Methods using Turret-moored FPSO Model
Abstract: Abstract Floating structures are prone to fatigue due to high cyclic loads mainly caused by waves and changing loading conditions. Therefore, fatigue is an important criterion during design. The fatigue life is dependent upon factors such as global and local design, workmanship during construction, maintenance, corrosion protection, and trade and load history. Different approaches are applied to the fatigue strength assessment. Longitudinal stiffener end connections are also important structural elements …

Detection and Assessment of Structural Weaknesses in Existing Offshore Structures
Abstract: The structural integrity and serviceability of existing structures may deteriorate over time due to aging, environmental exposure, material degradation, overloading, inadequate maintenance, and repeated operational stresses. Early identification of structural deficiencies is essential for preventing progressive damage and ensuring safe and reliable performance throughout the service life of a structure. This study presents a systematic structural condition assessment of an existing structure using visual inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques. …

BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE CYLINDRICAL SHELL STRUCTURE USING FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS
Abstract: When designing cylindrical shells one should consider not only the strength problem in service, but also the buckling problem. Cylindrical shells such as thin-walled structures are susceptible to buckling when subjected to static and dynamic stresses. The vessels are exposed to dynamic sea conditions depending on their usage. The functional failure of a pressurized composite vessel or a composite pipe in the form of leakage or weeping of the contained …
