A Shear Strength Reduction Method for an Open Pit Slope Stability Analysis Based on Finite Element Method
Abstract: Slope stability assessment of open pit mines is critically important, since it forms part of the overall productivity and safety management strategy of the mines. The aim of this work is to investigate the overall stability conditions of three (3) open pits in Gold Fields Limited, Tarkwa Ghana. Field and laboratory investigations were conducted as well as empirical methods. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in Rocscience was carried out using the …

New Design Formulae for Safety and Precision in the Fatigue Engineering of Mechanical Components and Structures
Abstract: This paper introduces two new formulae, termed the Nori Fatigue Formulae, for determining the maximum allowable fatigue stress in mechanical components and structures with significant stress concentrations. These formulae will eliminate the usage of code-sensitive safety factors along with other factored values from the entire mechanical design engineering work, ranging from a safety pin to spacecraft. The first formula gives the maximum allowable fatigue stress in tension, and the second …

Optimizing Glass to Metal Composite Seal Performance: An integrated Approach with Artificial Neural Network, Multiple Regression, and Taguchi
Abstract: Composite materials, particularly glass to metal composites, are critical components in solar receiver tubes, where vacuum leakage can significantly compromise the efficiency of solar plants. This research addresses the technical barriers associated with the development of durable and high-quality glass to metal composite seals. We investigate the principles that can enhance the physical and chemical properties of these composite seals, focusing on the incorporation of TiO2 and MgO nanoparticles into …
