Efficient Cell Balancing and Protection Schemes for Electric Vehicles
Abstract: Efficient cell balancing and protection are critical aspects of electric vehicle (EV) battery management systems, ensuring optimal performance, longevity, and safety. Cell balancing refers to the process of equalizing the charge levels of individual cells within a battery pack to maximize energy utilization and prevent overcharging or undercharging of any cell. This promotes uniform wear and extends the overall lifespan of the battery pack. In the context of EVs, where …

Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Using A 10x10 Sensor Matrix with Integrated Circuit Design for Pressure Control
Abstract: This project aims to create a system that generates energy using piezoelectric technology, designed as a rectangular tile platform. The platform has two layers of sensors arranged in a 10 × 10 grid, connected in a mix of series and parallel setups. The top layer acts as a surface for external forces, like footsteps, while springs connect the layers to control pressure and maximize energy generation. A rectifier ensures the …

Power System Stability Enhancement Using UPFC
Abstract: AbstractThe UPFC consist of two voltage-source converters, one connected to the power system through a shunt transformer, whereas the other is inserted into the transmission line through a series transformer. These two voltage-source converters are coupled through a common dc capacitor link. From the control perspective, the UPFC can be decoupled into two branches; the parallel branch formed by the shunt transformer, voltage source converter and dc capacitor operating as …

The Transient Response and Frequency Characteristics of Power Transformers having Non-uniform Winding Insulation
Abstract: This paper presents a Laplace-domain distributed-parameter technique for analyzing the transient and frequency response of power transformers having non-uniform winding insulation. Stronger winding insulation near the windings source side terminals is usually applied in order to mitigate the concentration of the transient voltage stresses close to these locations. This will result in a location-dependent inter-turn capacitance distribution. The suggested procedure for analyzing such windings is based on the cascade connection …

Electromagnetic Transients in Compensated Overhead Lines with Multiple Tower Spans
Abstract: This paper addresses the analysis of the electromagnetic transients developed in an important class of non-uniform high-voltage power lines. It deals particularly with compensated long overhead high- voltage transmission lines composed of several tower spans, which are connected in cascade. The derived mathematical model leads to a system composed of simultaneous partial differential and algebraic equations, which can be solved numerically in terms of parametric functions using the software Mathematica’s …

The Time and Frequency Response of Shielded Transformer Windings
Abstract: A distributed-parameter model is presented for the transient and frequency analysis of power transformers’ windings in the presence of electrostatic shielding, a technique occasionally applied for improving their initial voltage distribution. The s-domain solution takes into account the windings’ circuit parameters with special emphasis on the additional distributed capacitances between the windings’ conductors and the conducting shield which is connected to the windings’ line terminal. The closeness of the resulting …
