Co-toxicity of Pyrethroid Mixtures against Field and Laboratory Reared Populations of Lipaphis erysimi Kalt. (Aphididae: Homoptera)
Abstract: AbstractCo-toxicity of fenpropathrin with deltamethrin 10 EC, esfenvalerate 5.5 EC, λ-cyhalothrin 2.5 EC and β-cyfluthrin was evaluated in field-collected and laboratory-reared populations of Lapaphis erysimi Kalt. Field population was found to be resistant to all these types of pyrethroids and RR (resistance ratio) was 31, 33, 33, 16 and 16 to fenpropathrin, deltamethrin, esfenvalerate, cyhalotiirn and β-cyfluthrin, respectively. Mixture of fenpropathrin with deltamethrin, esfenvalrate, λ-cyhalothirn and β-cyfluthrin in 1:1 ratio. …

Pyrethroid Mediated Some Macromolecular and Biochemical Changes in Freshwater Teleost
Abstract: Abstract In present investigation, a freshwater fish Channa punctatus was exposed for 21 days to synthetic pyrethroid malathion at sublethal concentrations of 0.007mg L−1 and 0.093 mg L−1 that represented 10% of the 96 h LC50 of the pesticide for this fish. Tissue samples were collected at the end of the experiment and analyzed to determine oxidant/antioxidants status (catalase, LDH, DNA content, protein content, cortisol, etc.) of the fish. Enzyme …

Evaluation of Acute Toxicity Levels and Behavioral Changes to the Fry of Common Carp, Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus, 1758) Under Exposure of a Pyrethroid Insecticide Cypermethrin
Abstract: Toxicity of an insecticide Cypermethrin to the fry of common carp, Cyprinus carpio along with their behavioural changes was evaluated in the present study. The 24, 48, 72, and 96 h LC50 values of Cypermethrin to the fry of Cyprinus carpio were 1.04, 0.92, 0.89, 0.79 ng/l, respectively. The mortality rate of C. carpio showed significant variation (p < .05) with the increasing concentrations at all exposure times. On the …

Evaluation on the Sensitivity of the Freshwater Tropical Worm, Branchiura sowerbyi (Beddard, 1892) to the Pyrethroid Pesticide, Bifenthrin
Abstract: In the present study, acute toxicity of the pyrethroid pesticide, bifenthrin, was evaluated under the experimental condition to the freshwater tropical oligochaete worm, Branchiura sowerbyi. The 96 h LC50 with 95% confidence limits of B. sowerbyi was 1.043(0.721-1.327) μg/l. None of the unexposed control test animal died during the experiment. Relation between each concentration and mortality rate during 24–96 h was found to be correlated. The mortality rate varied significantly …

Fenvalerate Toxicity on Fish: A Review
Abstract: As a new class of agricultural insecticides, synthetic pyrethroids are widely used to control insect pests. Synthetic pyrethroids have shown to enter the aquatic environment from agricultural runoff or drift from aerial and ground-based spraying applications posing threat to fishes, which are less tolerant to pesticides through direct exposure. These insecticides interfere with the sodium channel of the nervous system resulting in prolonged sodium tail current. Widespread application of these …

Toxicity of Alpha-Cypermethrin on Fish
Abstract: Alpha-cypermethrin is a type II synthetic pyrethroid. Synthetic pyrethroids are used extensively for the control of insect pest and public health purpose. A fresh water fish was exposed to lethal concentration and sub lethal concentration of alpha-cypermethrin, respectively to observe the enzyme activity in functionally two different tissues—gills and liver. The present article focusses on non-target organism in fresh water environment and critically evaluates the toxicity of these pyrethroids in …

Sub-acute Toxicity of β-cyfluthrin in Hepatic Tissue and its Amelioration through Punica granatum in Swiss albino mice
Abstract: β-cyfluthrin, member of synthetic pyrethroid pesticide Type II is broadly used multipurpose insecticide. Widespread and indiscriminate use of β-cyfluthrin leads to environmental contamination and toxicity towards nontarget mammalian systems. The present study was undertaken to examine toxic manifestation of β-cyfluthrin in hepatic tissue of Swiss albino mice and also evaluate possible mitigative potential of pomegranate juice (PJ) in combating pesticide induced hepato-toxicity. Animals were divided into five groups namely, control, …

Screening, Isolation and Characterization of Cypermethrin Tolerating Bacteria from Sugarcane Field Soil
Abstract: Cypermethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid pesticide group widely used to control pests in cotton, fruits, and vegetable crops. Excessive use of pesticide in agriculture is one of the major causes of environmental pollution. The present study was aimed to screen, optimize and identify Cypermethrin-tolerant bacteria. For this purpose the pesticide exposed soil samples were collected and bacterial strains were isolated on Cypermethrin-containing Nutrient agar plates. On the basis of physical …

Quantitative Mass Balance Modelling for the Synthesis and Production of Ten High-Volume Insecticides
Abstract: This study presents a detailed quantitative mass balance analysis for the industrial synthesis and production of ten high-volume insecticides: acequinocyl, acetamiprid, acynonapyr, alpha-cypermethrin, benzpyrimoxan, bifenazate, bifenthrin, bistrifluron, broflanilide, and bromofos, focusing on material flows, process efficiencies, and environmental implications. These compounds, spanning diverse chemical classes like neonicotinoids, pyrethroids, and meta-diamides, are essential for crop protection but pose challenges due to resource-intensive syntheses and waste generation. For each insecticide, standardized manufacturing …

Brain GST Inhibition, An Additional Mode of Action Following Beta-Cyfluthrin Intoxication in Albino Rat
Abstract: The aim of the study was to reveal the neurotoxic effect of an orally administered beta-cyfluthrin, a type-II pyrethroid in albino rats on the basis of activity of brain GST (Glutathione-s-transferase), AChE (acetylcholinesterase) and of total proteins level at different doses 35.48 and 5.06, 2.53, 1.68, 1.27 mg/kg body weight, for acute (1 day) and sub-acute (7, 14, 21 and 28 days) treatments respectively. Results reveal that beta-cyfluthrin administration inhibits …

Xenopsylla cheopis and Plague: Biology, Transmission, and Control
Abstract: Xenopsylla cheopis, the oriental rat flea, remains the most important vector of Yersinia pestis in classical rodent–flea–human plague cycles. Its biology is tightly adapted to commensal rats, especially Rattus rattus and Rattus norvegicus, whose nests provide microhabitats that support all pre adult stages and favour persistent flea populations near humans. The flea’s holometabolous life cycle, including the capacity for prolonged pupal quiescence and opportunistic host-seeking by adults, underpins its ability …
