Comparison of High and Low Temperature Properties of Dual Modified Asphalt Binders with Polyphosphoric Acid and Polymer Modified Bitumen using Rheological Tests
Abstract: The main objective of this study was to investigate the properties of asphalt binder mixtures at both high and low temperatures. To achieve this, two types of admixtures were selected and combined, resulting in a technology known as dual modified asphalt binders. Extreme temperatures during summer and winter can lead to significant issues such as cracking and rutting in asphalt binder pavement. In order to address these problems, a comprehensive …

Hybrid Composite Behavior of Concrete-Filled Steel Tube (CFST) Columns: Review of Collapse Mechanisms and Polymer-Based Enhancements
Abstract: Concrete-Filled Steel Tube (CFST) columns are an advanced hybrid composite system where the steel tube's confinement and the concrete core's load capacity work together to improve structural performance. While commonly used in civil engineering, CFSTs can also be understood within the framework of composite materials, similar to polymer- and fiber-reinforced composites, in which interactions between phases determine strength, ductility, and failure modes. This review compiles experimental and numerical research on …

Polymer Chemistry Solutions for C&D Waste Stabilization and Reuse in Construction Materials
Abstract: The construction and demolition (C&D) waste is among the largest streams of solid-waste in the world, which has posed significant environmental, economic, and resource utility issues. Common waste disposal techniques such as landfill and low-grade recycling contribute to destruction of the material and wasteful characteristics. Polymers as methods of stabilizing mixed C&D waste and converting it into a high-performance construction material have become one of the promising methods in recent …

Influence of ZycoTherm Dosage on Polymer Modified Bitumen and Marshall Performance of Hydrated Lime Incorporated Warm Mix Bituminous Concrete
Abstract: This study examines the effect of ZycoTherm on PMB 76-10 binder characteristics and the performance of PMB-based Bituminous Concrete (BC) Grade-II prepared at reduced mixing temperatures, with and without hydrated lime. PMB 76-10 was modified with ZycoTherm at dosages of 0.05%, 0.10%, 0.15%, and 0.20% by weight of binder and evaluated using conventional and residue-based tests. Increasing ZycoTherm dosage decreased penetration, while softening point, flash point, and elastic recovery increased, …

Lignin-modified bitumen: Exploring characteristics and performance
Abstract: The surge in crude oil prices has sparked interest in finding efficient and cost-effective alternatives to bitumen, a binder used in road pavement. Bitumen, derived from crude oil distillation or natural deposits, is primarily utilized in pavement grade bitumen, accounting for 83% of its usage. However, traditional hot mix asphalt, which relies heavily on bitumen, emits significant amounts of CO2, CH4, and N2O, contributing to environmental concerns. To address these …

Development and Performance Evaluation of Polymer-Modified Geopolymer Composites Incorporating GGBS
Abstract: This research investigates the development and performance of geopolymer-based composite materials formulated using Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) as a reactive mineral component within an aluminosilicate polymer matrix. The study aims to create an eco-efficient and structurally sound inorganic polymer composite comparable to M35-grade concrete, produced entirely under ambient curing conditions. A series of mixes with varying GGBS replacement ratios (0–100%) was prepared, maintaining a constant binder content of …

A Brief Review on Herbal Excipients
Abstract: Natural or herbal excipients are significantly more advantageous than their synthetic equivalents because they are readily available, non-toxic, and less expensive. The pharmaceutical industries are becoming more interested in using these herbal excipients – mainly polymers of natural origin – in formulation development because of growing knowledge of them. The purpose of this study is to provide light on the possibility of using natural excipients, which are biocompatible and able …

Recent Advances in Hybrid Polymer–Cement Composites: Interfacial Engineering, Self-Curing Mechanisms, and Microstructural Performance
Abstract: The increasing demand for high-performance polymer-modified cementitious composites has stimulated extensive research into hybrid self-curing composite systems with engineered aggregate phases. Self-curing hybrid polymer–cement composite systems, using recycled aggregates, constitute one of the solutions proposed by researchers to overcome problems related to moisture loss during the curing process, shrinkage, cracking, and the limited amount of natural aggregate available. This critical review provides an overview of recent developments concerning the production, …
