Innovative Biosensor Applications in Petroleum Industry for Enhanced Monitoring and Safety Measures
Abstract: The petroleum industry is fundamental to the global economy, providing the energy and raw materials that drive modern society. However, this industry faces a myriad of challenges, including ensuring the safety of operations, monitoring critical processes effectively, and minimizing environmental impacts. Traditional monitoring techniques, while valuable, often fall short in delivering real-time data and comprehensive insights into operational parameters. These limitations can result in delayed responses to potential hazards and …

Cytogenotoxicity Assessment of Asphalt Plant Discharge Water using Plant Assay
Abstract: The Allium cepa assay test was used to evaluate cytogenotoxic effects of asphalt plant discharge water at the concentrations of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100% (v/v) asphalt plant discharge water/distilled water. The distilled water served as the negative control. The analysis of the physicochemical properties and heavy metals concentrations showed that most parameters were higher than the established standards of WHO and FMENV. The …

Electronic Circuitry and Material Integration for Enhanced Gas Detection Windows
Abstract: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and propane, being flammable mixtures of hydrocarbon gases, are widely used as fuel in various applications such as homes, hostels, and industries. Our main objective for this project is to design and fabricate a gas sensing window that will autonomously open upon detecting any leakage of gases like LPG, CO2, alcohol, propane, etc. The heart of our system is the MQ-9 gas sensor, known for its …

Bioremediation of Crude Oil-Contaminated Loamy Soil Using Plantain (Musa Paradisiaca) Stem Waste as a Biostimulant
Abstract: Crude oil contamination of soil is a pressing environmental challenge in oil-producing regions, especially in the Niger Delta of Nigeria. It degrades soil fertility, disrupts microbial ecosystems, and poses long-term ecological and health risks. Traditional remediation methods are often cost- prohibitive and environmentally intrusive, prompting the search for sustainable alternatives. This study investigates the potential of plantain (Musa paradisiaca) stem waste – a readily available agricultural byproduct – as a …
