Biochemical Biomarkers as a Tool in Chromium Induced Toxicity to Green Tiger Prawn, Penaeus semisulcatus (De-Haan, 1844)
Abstract: Estuarine ecosystem and its biodiversity are at higher risk due to coastal contamination by heavy metals and conservation of biodiversity can be accomplished by utilizing biomarkers of pollutant at different exposure levels. In the present study, chronic toxicity test was conducted to evaluate the antioxidants and enzymes as the possible biomarkers in Green Tiger Prawn, Penaeus semisulcatus. The chronic endpoint value (MATC), no-observed effect concentration (NOEC), and low-observed effective concentration …

Brain GST Inhibition, An Additional Mode of Action Following Beta-Cyfluthrin Intoxication in Albino Rat
Abstract: The aim of the study was to reveal the neurotoxic effect of an orally administered beta-cyfluthrin, a type-II pyrethroid in albino rats on the basis of activity of brain GST (Glutathione-s-transferase), AChE (acetylcholinesterase) and of total proteins level at different doses 35.48 and 5.06, 2.53, 1.68, 1.27 mg/kg body weight, for acute (1 day) and sub-acute (7, 14, 21 and 28 days) treatments respectively. Results reveal that beta-cyfluthrin administration inhibits …

Mercury-induced Biochemical Changes in Perna viridis Exposed in Chronic Toxicity Test
Abstract: In the present study, the Asian green mussel, Perna viridis, was exposed to 50, 75, 113, 160 and 253 µg/L Hg concentrations under chronic toxicity for the assessment of biochemical biomarkers. Higher levels of glutathione S-transferase (GST), reduced glutathione (GSH), lipid peroxidation (LPO) and lower levels of protein, catalase (CAT) and acetylcholinesterase (AchE) were found. The values were found to be significant at P < 0.01. This study suggests that …

Protective Role of Sulforaphane against Multiorgan Toxicity in Rats: An In-vivo and In-vitro Review Study
Abstract: Sulforaphane [1-isothiocyanate-(4R) -(methylsulfinyl) butane] is a natural dietary isothiocyanate produced by the enzymatic accomplishment of the myrosinase on glucopharanin, a 4-methylsulfinylbutyl glucosinolate contained in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, and cabbage. Exploring of this compound against various oxidative degenerative diseases such as hepatic, nephro and cardiac diseases is growing because of its anticarcinogenic and cytoprotective properties. In several invivo and invitro experimental paradigms proved SFN and its compounds …

Effects of Sub Chronic Dermal Exposure of Gasoline Blended with Varying Concentration of Benzene on Hepatic Mixed Function Oxidases in Rats
Abstract: Interaction of chemicals in a mixture, their biotransformation and adverse impact, if any, on environment and workroom atmosphere needs to be evaluated to identify the nature of potential toxic effects elicited by constituent chemical(s) in a mixture. The nature of chemical interaction(s) through which an individual chemical in a mixture undergoes metabolism and/or biotransformation in the target tissue could be helpful in evaluation of its toxic potential. Gasoline is a …

Biochemical Assessment of Fish Channa punctatus Exposed to Heavy Metal Loaded Waste Water with Serum Biochemistry and Oxidative Stress as Biomarker Responses
Abstract: Due to Rapid industrialization from past two decades, there has been increase in industrial wastes which has been discharged into the nearby water bodies, leading to the damage of the whole ecosystems and marine habitat. These industries possess a potential threat to the aquatic ecosystem besides, its flora and fauna. One such condition has been witnessed in the present study in MIDC Area of Amravati region of Maharashtra India. In …

Sodium benzoate induced reproductive and metabolic changes in Anabas testudineus (Bloch, 1792)
Abstract: AbstractSodium benzoate is an effective antimicrobial agent used as a food preservative, but recently gained attention as the chemical toxicant. The present study investigated sodium benzoate induced male reproductive toxicity and metabolic changes at100 mg/ L concentration in the freshwater fish, Anabas testudineus. Sodium benzoate did not alter the weight of fish but increased the secretion of mucous as the primary defensive mechanism. Reduction in the absolute and relative weights …

The role of Ethylacetate fractions of Parkinsonia aculeata and Newbouldia laevis against Carbon Tetrachloride Toxicity in Rats
Abstract: This research work studied the preventive effect of ethylacetate fractions of Parkinsonia aculeata and Newbouldia laevis using carbontetrachloride (CCl 4 ) model to induce toxication in rats. Increased (p<0.05) serum concentrations of enzymes and non-enzymes biochemicalparameters such as lactate dehydrogenase, gamma glutamyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase, alanine and aspartate transaminases andtotal bilirubin, were seen in group of rats administered only carbon tetrachloride. However, groups that received 100 to 200mg/kg of thetwo …
